Why This Role Matters
The Washington Post is seeking an experienced, strategic and collaborative leader to serve as director of Audience Analytics, Insights and Strategy. This role will help shape and execute our newsroom’s audience strategy, with a focus on activating data-informed practices that expand the reach, engagement and impact of our journalism.
Understanding audience behavior, trends and needs — and turning that knowledge into actionable strategy — is core to how we grow and evolve as a newsroom. This leader will help connect the dots between our data, platforms, tools and editorial strategy. They will oversee a portfolio that spans audience analytics and insight generation, experimentation, training, and platform and article health, including a focus on search, social, newsletters and site optimization. They will work in close partnership with editorial and audience leaders across the organization to ensure our journalism meets readers where they are and performs to its highest potential.
The ideal candidate is a newsroom-savvy strategist with a deep understanding of audience data and a passion for translating insights into action. They should be an experienced manager of people and projects, skilled in bringing clarity and momentum to complex efforts. A strong candidate will be able to move seamlessly between high-level planning and tactical execution, from leading strategic initiatives to advising individual teams on best practices or engagement opportunities.
This role reports to the Head of Audience Strategy and Growth.

This position is based in our Washington, D.C., newsroom.

The annual salary range for this role is: $154,000 — $236,600.
The actual salary within this range will depend on individual skills, experience and qualifications as they relate to specific job requirements. This position may be eligible for a bonus or incentive program, and a member of the Talent Acquisition team will discuss bonus payment terms and conditions during the interview process.
