Responsibilities
  • Assigns, trains, leads and evaluates subordinate professional and sub-professional auditing staff.
  • Leads in conducting financial audits of State departments, agencies, institutions or schools or private agencies receiving federal funds to verify the completeness and accuracy of financial documentation and ensure conformance with accepted accounting principles and practices.
  • Leads in conducting audits of State departments, agencies, institutions or schools or private agencies receiving governmental funding to determine statutory compliance.
  • Leads in conducting operational or program audits of state or private agencies to evaluate program efficiency and effectiveness. Leads in examining organizational structure, managerial practices, policies and procedures and record-keeping procedures.
  • Leads in preparing audit narrative reports, work papers and other supporting financial documentation in order to identify legal, financial and/or administrative problems or discrepancies and recommend methods for improvement. Reviews audit reports submitted by subordinate auditors for completeness, mathematical accuracy, consistency and conformance to established audit procedures and practices.
  • Establishes and maintains a variety of personal contacts with departmental officials, agency representatives, attorneys, accountants, associates, and supervisory staff in suggesting solutions and resolving problems uncovered in the audit and explaining and interpreting pertinent laws, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Conducts training of subordinate auditing staff in proper audit procedures and practices, correct preparation of audit reports and correct interpretation and application of pertinent laws and regulations. May accompany entry level auditors on audits and provide technical assistance until job proficiency is achieved.
  • May conduct special studies and investigations at the request of a department head
