Description

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education: High school diploma.
  • Experience: At least 5 years of coding experience in ICD-9-CM diagnosis/procedure coding and HCPCS/CPT procedure coding in an acute care or professional services setting, with awareness of coding requirements based on those payors, i.e., MS DRG, APC, CPT, ICD, HCPCS OR At least 5 years of experience in health care coding and compliance related activities, i.e., audits, edits, 7 elements of a compliance program, OIG and DOJ investigation project management, compliance committee participation.
  • Certifications: Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), Registered Health Information Technologist (RHIT), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) (CCS-P), Certified Professional Coder (CPC) (CPC-P), Certified Outpatient Coder, Certified Professional Medical Auditor (CPMA) or Certified in Healthcare Compliance (CHC) to be completed within 6 months of employment Other: Knowledge of state, federal, and local regulations and requirements pertaining to documentation, coding, and billing required Exceptional written and verbal communication skills required.
  • Preferred Education: A.S. from an accredited Health Information Technology program or B.S. from an accredited Health Information Management Program
  • Preferred Certifications: Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), Registered Health Information Technologist (RHIT), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) (CCS-P), Certified Professional Coder (CPC) (CPC-P), Certified Professional Medical Auditor (CPMA) or Certified in Healthcare Compliance (CHC) to be completed within 6 months of employment.
  • Preferred Other: Minimum of 3 years inpatient and/or outpatient auditing experience Previous coding training experience Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office Outlook, Excel, and Word required. Working knowledge of 3M encoder and the Epic system preferred.
