Summary This position is responsible for answering the incoming authorization calls and to field them to the appropriate person or department. This person must also be able to communicate to the patient or physician office if authorization has been obtained or the current status the authorization is in. . Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following, and any other duties assigned as needed: • Answer incoming calls that come into the Authorization department. • Answer all questions from the incoming calls that you can and then transfer any of the calls that cannot be answered to the appropriate authorization representative or other department. • Look up in patient’s accounts to see of authorization is available or still pending. • Reschedule the patient’s appointment if they need more time for the authorization process to be completed. • Function in a team environment and assist other team members when needed • Keep all patient information confidential and recycle all personal data. • Email your manager all completed work, authorizations pending, and the number of verified accounts worked, every day • Work que must be worked 3+ days prior to any scheduled appointments. This should give adequate time to receive authorization before the day of the exam. • Function in a team environment and assist other team members when needed. • All other duties as assigned. Education / Experience / Knowledge • High School Graduate or GED equivalent • Computer software experience • Previous healthcare insurance authorization/verification experience • Medical CPT and ICD10 code knowledge a plus • Knowledge of customer service concepts and company policies including safety, privacy and HIPAA regulations. • Insurance carrier, CPT codes, ICD10 codes. • Knowledge of radiology procedures. • Knowledge and application of all other Company’s policies and procedures. • Knowledge of software applications for faxing, emailing, instant messaging and phone systems.
