SEN TEACHING ASSISTANT – AUTISM & BEHAVIOUR SUPPORT

Location: Workington, Cumbria
Start Date: September 2025
Contract: Full-time (5 days) or Part-time (3–4 days per week) | Term Time Only
Pay: £90 – £110 per day (depending on experience)
Hours: 08:30 – 15:30 or 08:30 – 16:00

A warm and inclusive SEN school in Workington is looking for a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join their team from September 2025. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a dynamic environment and is confident supporting children who may display challenging behaviours.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Right to work in the UK
  • Enhanced DBS (on the Update Service or willingness to apply – support available)
  • An up-to-date CV with relevant SEN and behaviour support experience
Responsibilities

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will:

  • Provide 1:1, 2:1, and small group support for pupils with autism and behavioural needs
  • Use de-escalation strategies and positive behaviour support techniques
  • Build trusting relationships that help children feel safe and understood
  • Support learning activities tailored to individual needs and EHCPs
  • Work closely with teachers, therapists, and support staff to implement personalised behaviour and learning plans
  • Promote emotional regulation, independence, and social development
  • Maintain a calm, structured, and consistent classroom environment
