ABOUT US

Be part of something big. Fortescue is leading the world with our plan to decarbonise our iron ore operations, projects that harness renewable energy and the development of technology that will change our planet forever.

KEEP THE IRON MOVING. KEEP YOUR CAREER ON TRACK….

Fortescue’s Hedland Operations, on the traditional lands of the Kariyarra people, are the heartbeat of our rail network. We’re looking for an experienced Auto Mechanical Heavy Vehicle Technician to join our Locomotive team — someone who thrives on hands-on work, problem solving, and keeping the fleet moving safely and efficiently.
If you’ve worked on locomotives (ideally General Electric, Progress Rail, or Wabtec assets) and love the challenge of diagnostics and repairs in a fast-paced environment, we’d love to hear from you.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Strong experience as an Auto Mechanical Technician — ideally with locomotives.
  • Trade qualification in automotive or mechanical engineering.
  • Hands-on knowledge of locomotive engines, diagnostics, and mechanical systems.
  • Problem-solving skills, a keen eye for detail, and a strong safety mindset.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a high-performing team.
Responsibilities
  • Carrying out routine servicing and mechanical repairs on locomotives.
  • Using modern diagnostic equipment to identify and resolve faults.
  • Ensuring every job meets the highest safety and quality standards.
  • Recording all work, parts, and labour in SAP.
  • Completing risk assessments before starting tasks.
  • Working closely with your team to deliver efficient, on-time outcomes.
