JOB TITLE: AUTOMATION ENGINEER

Location: Shelby Township, MI
Job Type: Full-time | Direct Hire
Compensation: $90,000 $110,000 annually (Based on programming experience)
Schedule: Monday Friday, 8:00 AM 4:00 PM (with occasional off-shift and weekend overtime as required)
Reports To: Operations Manager
Travel: Limited local travel supporting two additional Michigan plants
Primary Focus:
This is a hands-on engineering role. The Automation Engineer is responsible for keeping existing automation cells running efficiently to improve First Time Quality (FTQ), throughput, and overall schedule attainment at the Shelby Township plant. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical expertise while also taking a leadership role in training and mentoring team members, especially on off-shifts, to reduce micro-stoppages and downtime.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform preventive maintenance and emergency repairs on automation systems and robotic work cells.
  • Troubleshoot and program automation equipment, with a focus on FANUC and Mitsubishi MELFA robots.
  • Ensure equipment operates safely and within manufacturer standards, following OSHA guidelines.
  • Provide expert-level technical support on electrical, mechanical, and vision system issues (Keyence vision systems required).
  • Calibrate, test, and maintain equipment across the plant.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and implement automation solutions.
  • Assist in sourcing automation and manufacturing equipment vendors.
  • Develop and maintain standard equipment designs, control systems, and documentation.
  • Create Scope of Work documentation and manage automation projects from planning to commissioning.
  • Lead training programs for operations and maintenance staff to support knowledge transfer and skill development.
  • Ensure thorough documentation and structured handoffs during equipment commissioning.
  • Participate in continuous improvement and lean manufacturing initiatives.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • 7 8 years of hands-on experience with industrial automation and programming.
  • Formal technical training (2 4 years beyond high school) required.
