We work at the cutting edge of innovation, leveraging robotics and artificial intelligence and are currently building an integrated laboratory enabling seamless execution of the full Design-Make-Test-Analyze (DMTA) cycle to accelerate compound discovery and optimization.
We are seeking a motivated chemist with a strong background in applied automation. You will play a pivotal role in designing, executing, and analyzing experiments in our automated lab - collaborating with engineers, data scientists, and domain experts to enhance drug discovery processes.
The position requires the ability to work independently for the development and adaption of novel chemical reactions for automation. You will employ state-of-the-art machine-learning and artificial intelligence (AI) tools as well as your experience in planning and conducting syntheses to optimize compound properties using automated/robotic systems.
EXPERIENCE:
- 3+ years of previous experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job
- Demonstrated track record across multiple projects preferably in pharmaceutical discovery environment, esp. using robotic systems
- Hands-on experience with automation platforms for automated chemistry and parallel synthesis
- Proven problem solving and troubleshooting abilities
Soft and technical skills:
- Strong knowledge and technical expertise in organic synthesis, incl. catalysis and modern synthetic methods.
- Experience in planning and conducting syntheses using automated systems.
- Solid knowledge & technical expertise in the field of analytics, expertise in interpreting Mass Spectrometry data, NMR etc.
- Solid knowledge & technical expertise in compound purification, e.g. column chromatography, extraction.
- Familiarity with state-of-the-art ML technology
- Proficiency in highly effective oral and written communication.
- Strong interpersonal, collaborative skills, willingness to integrate in teams.
Education:
- PhD degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, pharmaceutical sciences, or equivalent
Languages:
- Fluency in English, German is a plus
Responsibilities:
- Planning and conducting syntheses of chemical compounds or sets of chemical compounds using robotic systems in a fully integrated automation laboratory.
- Developing proper automation protocols to meet the needs of discovery project teams and medicinal chemists, including development of strategies for synthesizing small sets of compounds and employing AI tools to enable these.
- Finding, describing, and presenting solution strategies for problems with chemical reactions, robotic processes, and other related issues in close collaboration with engineers and other stakeholders.
- Communicating results effectively to the team and stakeholders, including transferring knowledge across sites and disciplines, fostering international collaboration to make maximal use of the automated DMTA platform across all research sites of Sanofi.
- Strongly collaborate with AI scientists to keep optimizing an automated DMTA platform.
