Catalyx is seeking an Automation Scientist to join our team and work on our customer site in Utrecht.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Master’s degree in life sciences, engineering or a related field with relevant working experience.
  • A must have expertise in operating and programming automated liquid handling systems.
  • Experience with programming languages such as Python, C#, or similar, to develop and enhance automation workflows.
  • Hands-on experience translating wet lab molecular biology workflows (e.g., PCR/qPCR, RNA assembly methods, sequencing library preparation) into automation protocols.
  • In-depth understanding of general laboratory procedures and experimentation.
  • Ability to develop and deploy technologies with ambitious timelines and deliverables.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a results-driven mindset.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a passion for working in a team-oriented environment.
  • Adaptable and eager to learn, with a proactive approach to tackling challenges.

In this role, you will collaborate closely with scientists to automate high-value workflows, streamline laboratory processes, and drive the adoption of advanced automation solutions. Your contributions will be instrumental in enhancing productivity and accelerating scientific innovation.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Collaborate with scientists and technicians: Spend time in the lab to deeply understand their workflows, identifying opportunities for automation and implementing high-throughput solutions.
  • Develop and optimize automation processes: Deliver hands-on support to implement, refine, and enhance automation technologies to meet the evolving needs of the research teams.
  • Transition manual workflows to automated systems: Redesign existing manual processes to make them automation-ready, ensuring efficiency and accuracy.
  • Explore and validate innovative solutions: Continuously evaluate new technologies, liaise with vendors, organize demonstrations, and validate cutting-edge tools and kits for the lab.
  • Be a key partner to the team: constantly support the team during the technology transfers and beyond, maintain a positive and outgoing approach while collaborating with scientists, technicians, and other stakeholders.
