Role Definition
We are seeking a highly experienced and strategic Staff Field Applications Engineer with a strong focus on Automotive and deep system-level expertise to support global engagements with Automotive OEMs and Tier 1s.
In this role, you will take the lead in driving business growth by identifying and solving customer challenges, shaping internal processes, and mentoring junior team members. You will act as a lighthouse for the team—defining best practices and delivering robust, system-level solutions.
Success in this position requires a deep understanding of hardware and software architectures, cross-domain development processes, and the ability to anticipate and address technical and procedural risks.
A strong grasp of evolving automotive trends, particularly in Software Defined Vehicles and Electrification, is essential. The ideal candidate combines technical excellence, strategic mindset, and strong communication skills to influence both internal stakeholders and key customers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Understand customer needs and propose innovative, system-level solutions by leveraging ADI’s portfolio and expertise.
  • Build, present, and document comprehensive Proof of Concept demos showcasing ADI’s capabilities to solve complex customer challenges.
  • Lead customer engagements by designing and integrating software and hardware systems to address current and future challenges effectively.
  • Facilitate seamless communication and collaboration between customers, internal Business Units, and cross-functional teams to align resources, requirements, and timelines.
  • Proactively participate in and lead system integration, debugging, and optimization activities, ensuring software and hardware alignment.
  • Establish, maintain, and deepen trust-based relationships with customers, acting as a strategic advisor and technical advocate.
  • Serve as a mentor and technical leader, training junior team members and guiding best practices in software and hardware integration.
  • Identify potential technical and process-related issues ahead of time, implementing measures to prevent them and ensure smooth project execution.
  • Shape and improve internal processes, identifying weaknesses and contributing to solutions that enhance team efficiency and performance.
  • Act as a lighthouse for the team, setting a high standard in technical expertise, customer engagement, and adherence to processes.
  • Participate in the evaluation and design of new software architectures and development strategies to ensure scalability and robustness across projects.
  • Travel to customer sites (up to 50%) to provide hands-on technical support, conduct in-depth discussions, and build long-term customer relationships.
  • Lead cross-functional collaborations to address customer needs holistically and identify new business opportunities.
  • Contribute to and champion the improvement of workflows, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and industry standards.

Qualifications and required skills

  • Education: Master’s Degree in Electrical or Electronics Engineering.
  • Experience: Minimum 10 years of software development experience across diverse projects and environments.
  • Technical Skills:
  • Proven ability to design and implement software architectures and processes.
  • Extensive experience in designing scalable and modular software architectures across diverse hardware platforms.
  • Expertise in advanced debugging methodologies, including performance profiling and root cause analysis for complex systems.
  • Proficiency in C, C++, Python, and familiarity with modern Realtime OS.’s
  • Hands-on experience with processors and microcontrollers.
  • Strong knowledge of communication protocols (e.g. I2C, SPI, UART, and Ethernet).
  • Familiarity with emerging technologies like TSN (Time-Sensitive Networking).
  • Proficiency in debugging tools (JTAG, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers) and version control systems.
  • System-level expertise in integrating software with hardware platforms.
  • Soft Skills:
  • Exceptional communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strategic thinking with the ability to foresee and address challenges proactively.
  • Leadership qualities to inspire and mentor team members.
  • Strong organizational and collaboration skills.
  • Language Skills: Full working proficiency in English and German. Additional languages are a plus.

  • In-depth knowledge of cybersecurity principles and secure coding practices for embedded systems
  • Proficiency in advanced communication technologies, including TSN (Time-Sensitive Networking), 5G, and Ethernet-based industrial protocols.
  • Basic understanding of FPGA development concepts
  • Expertise in advanced system modelling and simulation tools for hardware-software co-design.
  • Deep understanding of automotive or industrial software standards and compliance requirements (e.g., ISO 26262, IEC 61508).
  • Familiarity with emerging areas such as AI, SDV, and Car Electrification.
  • Hands-on experience in designing and developing web applications, including expertise in web technologies such as PHP, HTML, JavaScript, and CSS.
  • Practical experience in designing and implementing intuitive and visually appealing graphical user interfaces (GUI).
