Description

ServicePoint has a customer seeking an Automotive HMI Designer for a 1-year hybrid opportunity located in Palo Alto, CA. The schedule is Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM, with three days onsite and two days remote, though candidates must be open to weekend work and overtime as needed. We are looking for a skilled Human-Machine Interaction (HMI) Designer with expertise in developing intuitive interfaces for Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) and automated driving applications. The ideal candidate will have experience in complex automation systems design, with a strong understanding of automotive human factors requirements and the ability to produce thorough design documentation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop user interfaces for ADAS and automated driving systems, ensuring they are intuitive and user-friendly and in compliance with automotive-relevant regulations for instrument cluster and display interfaces. (e.g. ISO26262, ISO 15008, UNR171, UL4600, FMVSS, etc.)
  • Perform information requirement analysis to determine essential data for interfaces and ensure these requirements are met in the design.
  • Translate complex technical requirements into accessible design solutions to enhance user experience and functionality.
  • Document design processes, maintain clear specifications, and ensure effective communication within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Ensure all interfaces comply with automotive regulations and standards for HMI in automated driving systems.
  • Lead design projects from their conceptual phase to market launch, ensuring cohesive and effective designs.

Key Requirements:

  • Strong experience in HMI design specific to automotive environments
  • Deep understanding of instrument cluster displays, ADAS, and self-driving systems
  • Experience designing for user interaction: visual cues, audio feedback, and communication design
  • Background in automotive design with a focus on interaction, not just graphical elements
  • Able to define and communicate what is important in a design—focus on user behavior and real-world integration
  • Not looking for a traditional graphic designer—needs a system thinker and innovator
  • Must be proactive, collaborative, and confident in contributing new ideas (not a “yes” person)

Required Qualifications:

  • At least 5 years of experience in an Interaction design role, ideally in the automotive industry
  • Experience in information requirement analysis and interface design for complex automation systems, ideally in the automotive industry.
  • Strong understanding of automotive and human factors requirements, with proven ability to apply these in practical design solutions.
  • Proficiency in using design tools such as Adobe Creative Suite, Sketch, or similar software for creating sophisticated UI/UX designs.
  • Familiarity with automotive regulations and industry standards regarding HMI for automated driving and ADAS.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
