POSITION: Automotive Technical AssistantLOCATION: NACTCREPORTS TO: Principal/ Director of Newport Area Career & Technical Center and/or designeeSTART DATE: 09/01/2025JOB DESCRIPTION: To assist the instructor in providing a well-organized, smoothly functioning class environment in which students can take full advantage of the instructional program and available resource materials.EDUCATION, TRAINING, and EXPERIENCE: Graduation from high school or high school equivalency certificate.Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certificate desirable.Be of good characterHave a high school diploma or general equivalency diplomaCompletion of a Teacher Assistant Pre-Employment Training Program approved by the RI Department of Education (RIDE). Three (3) exceptions to this particular qualification: Those hired before January 1, 1999Those with certification as a TA in another state,Those with an associate degree or bachelor degree AND who have completed coursework or other training consistent with the teacher assistant program standards. Meet one (1) of the following requirements: Successfully pass the ParaPro Assessment. ORComplete at least 2 years of study at an institution of higher education ORObtain an associates or higher degree.Minimum of four (4) years of successful experience in automotive repair preferred.
Experience acquired through either secondary or post-secondary training at an accredited institution, or apprentice training from work-related experience in automotive technology.Ability to establish professional rapport with students and teachers.Must be prepared to demonstrate a proficiency in current skills and knowledge of automotive repair.Demonstrated ability to perform the responsibilities below as evidenced by course work, previous experience, and the interview process. RESPONSIBILITIES: To assist the teacher/director in all areas of classroom and lab activities, including a variety of activities as prescribed by the teacher.To render services as required.To assist with the education process, present materials, teacher-directed activities, and operation of lab equipment.To work with students in the Automotive program or on location under the teachers instruction and supervision.To collaboratively plan visits to industry for NACTC students to participate in career awareness activities.Performs all other duties as assigned by the teacher and/or Director of Newport Area Career & Technical Center.PHYSICAL/ MENTAL REQUIREMENTS: Walking, jumping, running, balancing, climbing, crawling, standing, turning, stooping, crouching, kneeling, sitting, reaching, lifting, carrying, throwing, pushing, handling, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing, color vision, depth perception, pulling, and grasping.WORKING CONDITIONS: Work primarily inside, sometimes outsides and on job sites, Adequate ventilation, Working around/with others, Adequate lightingTERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: In accordance with the Local 841 contract-Technical Assistant. 32.5 hours per week. hour unpaid lunch.10 month positionPay grade 5NACTC7:15am-2:15pmAPPLICATIONS: Applicants apply through www.schoolspring.comApplicants are not to approach members of the Newport School Committee.
