About the Role We are seeking a highly motivated and versatile Autonomous Vehicle Mechanical Engineer with a primary focus on sensor systems. You will be responsible for developing and implementing solutions to ensure the continuous and reliable operation of sensors in an autonomous vehicle system. While your main focus will be on sensor cleaning, you may also be asked to contribute to other mechanical engineering topics as needed. You will work with cross-functional teams, including hardware, software, and validation teams, to define requirements, design systems, and test solutions that maintain sensor performance in various environmental conditions. Key Responsibilities Sensor System Development: Design and integrate innovative sensor cleaning systems for various autonomous vehicle sensors (e.g., LiDAR, radar, cameras). Define system requirements and specifications, considering factors like fluid management, power consumption, and durability. Conduct feasibility studies and trade-off analyses for different cleaning technologies. Mechanical Design and Integration: Contribute to the mechanical design and packaging of vehicle components, ensuring they are manufacturable and durable. Assist in troubleshooting any dimensional issues in vehicle designs and builds. Review and recommend assembly processes for components, focusing on controlling variation and improving processes. Validation and Testing: Plan, develop, and execute reliability and performance tests for sensor cleaning systems, including environmental stress, durability, and real-world condition testing. Analyze test data to evaluate system effectiveness and identify areas for improvement. Troubleshoot and debug issues related to sensor contamination and cleaning system failures. Collaboration: Collaborate with hardware, software, and perception software engineers to ensure seamless integration and validation of cleaning systems. Work with suppliers to source and validate components. Stay current with industry trends and advancements in sensor cleaning technologies and other mechanical engineering disciplines. Required Qualifications Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, or a related field. Experience: 5+ years of experience in product development, with a focus on mechatronics, fluid dynamics, or mechanical systems. Skills: Proven experience in designing and validating complex mechanical or electromechanical systems. Strong understanding of fluid dynamics, material science, and their application in cleaning systems. Experience with a variety of sensors used in autonomous systems (LiDAR, radar, cameras). Proficiency in CAD software, with CATIA preferred. Excellent problem-solving, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills. Preferred Qualifications Experience in the automotive industry, particularly with autonomous vehicles or advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS). Familiarity with automotive quality standards (e.g., ISO 26262, AEC-Q100/200). Knowledge of different types of environmental contaminants and their effects on sensor performance. Experience with physics-of-failure and reliability modeling. Experience with CAE/FEA (Computer-Aided Engineering/Finite Element Analysis) and CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) is a plus. Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) experience.
