Job Summary The AV/Tech and Help Desk Specialist provides comprehensive technical support for the museum’s audiovisual systems, IT infrastructure, and end-user needs. This role ensures that all technology—ranging from exhibition and event AV setups to staff computer systems—is running smoothly and efficiently. The Specialist serves as the first point of contact for staff technology support while maintaining and improving the museum’s overall digital operations. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Audiovisual (AV) Support • Set up, operate, and troubleshoot AV systems for internal meetings, public programs, exhibitions, and special events. • Maintain projectors, microphones, speakers, video conferencing equipment, and other AV hardware. • Coordinate with Events, Exhibitions, and Facilities teams to support technical needs before, during, and after events. • Manage AV inventory and recommend upgrades or replacements as needed. Help Desk & IT Support • Provide first-line technical assistance to employees for hardware, software, and network issues. • Troubleshoot computers, printers, and mobile devices across Mac and Windows systems. • Create and maintain IT support documentation and training materials for staff. • Manage user accounts, access permissions, and password resets in coordination with the IT Manager. • Support onboarding/offboarding by setting up and collecting technology assets. System Maintenance & Infrastructure • Assist in maintaining and updating the organization’s IT systems and security protocols. • Monitor and report on network performance and system health. • Collaborate with external IT vendors for escalated support issues or hardware installations. Skills and Qualifications • Experience supporting events in galleries, museums, or nonprofit spaces. • Knowledge of Crestron, Extron, or similar AV control systems. • Familiarity with ticketing, CRM, or digital archiving systems. • Basic understanding of network cabling and server management. Education and Experience • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent experience). • 2+ years of experience providing IT and/or AV support in an office, education, or cultural institution setting. • Strong working knowledge of Windows and macOS environments. • Familiarity with audiovisual systems, Zoom Rooms, and digital signage setups. • Excellent troubleshooting, communication, and customer service skills. • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs and assist with event setup. • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Physical Demands • Ability to lift, move, and carry objects up to 40 pounds unassisted (e.g., AV equipment, monitors, cables). • Must be able to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and climb stairs or ladders as needed to access equipment and installation areas. • Comfortable working in a variety of environments, including office spaces, event settings, and gallery installations. • Visual and auditory ability to operate and troubleshoot computers, audiovisual equipment, and other electronic devices. • Ability to remain seated or standing for extended periods while monitoring events or performing technical work. • Manual dexterity to handle small parts, connect cables, and use hand tools or electronic devices. Work Environment • This position is considered a non-exempt position for purposes of federal wage and hour law, which means that you will be eligible for overtime pay for hours in excess of 40 in a given workweek. • Fast-paced environment with varying levels of guests and employees present. • Building Accessibility – office locations are wheelchair accessible, with elevators in the building. Other accessibility accommodations can be further discussed. Compensation $24 an hour Salary is commensurate with experience within the guidelines of a small not-for-profit.
