We are looking for an Aviation Claims Specialist (m/f/d), to be based in our Chicago, Alpharetta or New York location. Your Team You will be working with a small but diverse team of claims professionals of various experience levels and backgrounds, in a collegial and supportive atmosphere that values individual strengths and encourages professional development and participation in industry leadership. The Impact You Will Have As an Aviation Claims Specialist, you will proactively investigate, evaluate, and negotiate the resolution of assigned aviation liability claims, with a focus on airline passenger claims. You’ll work in accordance with established best practices and within granted autonomy limits, developing and maintaining relationships with brokers, clients, and internal business partners. You’ll provide efficient claims handling within the team and collaborate with third-party service providers to achieve economical results and deliver high-quality service to all stakeholders. Some of your specific responsibilities could include: Key Responsibilities Investigation & Reserving: Investigate complex aviation liability claims (airline passenger BI & PD). Evaluate coverage issues and determine appropriate reserving levels. Select and direct independent external service providers (lawyers, adjusters, experts). Settlement: Negotiate and resolve complex claims, ensuring cost-effective, service-oriented solutions. Settle claims in accordance with settlement guidelines. Referrals & Compliance: Ensure claims are handled within authority limits and in line with company procedures. Refer cases outside authority level, preparing referral documentation as needed. Support claims management procedures for new business accounts. Market Management: Support acquisition of new business and retention of existing business. Liaise with underwriters on market management initiatives. Attend industry functions. Relationship Management: Represent the company externally and develop relationships with brokers, clients, and stakeholders. Drive involvement of functional areas in claims handling (e.g., Underwriting, Operations). Report and present complex loss and claims information internally and externally. Claims Processing & Administration: Maintain accurate claims records within claims administration systems. Produce management information reports and identify loss trends. What You’ll Bring to the Role Detailed understanding of aviation claims (BI & PD) products, wordings, terms, and coverages. Solid knowledge of claim handling from notification to settlement and recovery. Knowledge of reserving principles and practices. Negotiation skills for resolution with claimants and/or lawyers. Strong writing skills for effective communication. Proven track record in handling liability claims involving complex coverage and damage issues (minimum 3–5 years). Detailed understanding of claims handling process (minimum 5+ years). Established relationships with brokers and strong presence in the local market (minimum 5+ years). In-depth understanding of regional/local insurance markets and competitor landscape (minimum 5+ years). Analytical skills to analyze non-complex data from multiple sources and resolve issues proactively. Experience in applying artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) to improve business processes and decision-making is highly beneficial. Negotiation and conflict management skills, especially in contentious situations. Proficiency in office applications (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint). Strong communication and presentation skills, both written and verbal. Fluent English skills, any other languages advantageous. The annualized base pay range for this role is $98,700 - $196,073. The annual base salary range represents a nationwide market range. The actual salary for this position may be above and will be determined by several factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role, the skills, education, training, credentials, and experience of the candidate. The base pay is just one component of the AzC total compensation package.
