STS Aviation Services is hiring an experienced Aviation Workshop Manager to lead operations at our Birmingham Hangar. This is a critical leadership role within our growing UK MRO operation, supporting military and commercial programs while ensuring strict compliance with MAA Part 145 regulations.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

As the machinist you will be responsible to the Workshop Manager, for providing support to the aircraft technicians which will enable them to work efficiently in their duties. The machinist operates machine tools, such as lathes and milling machines, to cut and produce precision parts, instruments, production jigs, bespoke tooling. The role is a vital part of supporting our Part 145 MAOS and ‘C’ rating capability, ensuring efficient workflows, maintaining quality control and adhering to safety protocols. Delivering projects on time, on cost while meeting customer expectations.
Applicants must be citizens of the United Kingdom or hold valid UK work authorization with a minimum of two years remaining before expiration.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum of 8 years of aviation experience
  • Completed an engineering apprenticeship, ideally in Aeronautical Engineering or a military equivalent
  • Proven experience managing aviation workshops, including component control
  • Strong understanding of MRP Part 145 regulations (required or willing to learn)
  • Ability to pass MAA Nominated Post Holder interview
  • Familiar with KPI development and performance tracking
  • Hands-on knowledge of machinery, tooling, and aerospace workshop equipment
  • Previous machine shop experience is advantageous
  • Solid interpersonal and leadership skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Eligible to work and live in the United Kingdom
  • Willingness to undergo UK security vetting
Responsibilities
  • Serve as the Nominated Post Holder for MRP Part 145 workshops, ensuring full regulatory compliance
  • Manage daily workshop operations, staffing, and resource allocation
  • Lead a team of technicians across various workshops with a focus on quality, safety, and efficiency
  • Ensure all work orders/contracts are accurately documented and executed
  • Maintain availability of all workshop facilities, equipment, and tooling appropriate to the work scope
  • Deliver workshop performance reports and metrics to leadership
  • Support internal training and ongoing competency development for workshop teams
  • Oversee workplace safety and cleanliness standards
  • Identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities across the facility
