Description

AVIONICS ENGINEER – SPACE TECHNOLOGY (LOS ANGELES, CA AREA)

My client is a fast-growing, Series A-funded space technology company on a mission to revolutionize renewable energy by extending solar power capabilities beyond daylight hours. Backed by top-tier investors and led by industry veterans, they are developing a constellation of space-based reflectors to beam sunlight back to Earth after dark. With a rapidly expanding team of engineers and a first spacecraft launch slated for 2026, this is a unique opportunity to join a pioneering company at the forefront of space innovation.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

As an Avionics Engineer, you’ll take full ownership of electronic subsystem design for the first spacecraft mission. You will be responsible for the end-to-end development of reliable, space-ready avionics – from concept and prototyping to testing, qualification, and flight operations. This role offers significant autonomy, fast-paced challenges, and the chance to have a lasting impact on the future of clean energy from space.

IDEAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Demonstrated experience designing and validating PCBAs for space or similarly demanding, high-performance environments (e.g., aerospace, automotive, defense)
  • Proven track record of owning high-reliability electronics subsystems from concept to deployment
  • Ability to work independently and thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced, and highly autonomous environment
  • Experience iterating on requirements and system architecture to achieve optimal designs within tight constraints
  • Strong troubleshooting skills, with a hands-on approach to debugging complex electronics systems
Responsibilities
  • Lead system-level design, integration, and interface definition for spacecraft avionics
  • Prototype, design, and validate flight computers, communication systems, power electronics, and ADCS (Attitude Determination and Control System) hardware
  • Establish best practices, processes, and tooling for electrical engineering and avionics design
  • Develop in-house avionics test infrastructure (e.g., flatsat, GPS simulation, power simulation, communications simulation)
  • Design and execute qualification testing for avionics hardware, including vibration, shock, thermal, and thermal vacuum environments
  • Own your hardware throughout the full lifecycle, from initial concept to flight operation and troubleshooting
