Position Overview  This position assumes all roles and responsibilities of an Avionics Technician in addition to the roles and responsibilities as defined below. Key Responsibilities * Report directly to the Department Manager regarding all assigned functions and operational tasks. * Supervise Avionics Maintenance Engineers and Apprentices on specific duties as directed by the Department Manager. * Direct technician workflows, ensuring all personnel possess the necessary knowledge and resources to complete assigned tasks safely and effectively. * Mentor and coach apprentice AMEs and entry-level personnel, proactively building team skill sets through clear communication and professional accountability. * Provide technical guidance and expert advice to assigned technicians to ensure maintenance excellence. * Coordinate with inter-departmental teams to organize and control workflow, maximizing operational efficiency. * Maintain safety standards by ensuring all equipment is used correctly, and adequate safeguards are in place to protect aircraft and ground assets. * Conduct technical research and maintenance-related troubleshooting as required to support fleet airworthiness. * Serve as a primary liaison for flight crews regarding aircraft condition in the absence of the Department Manager. * Communicate aircraft serviceability status to Flight Operations when the Department Manager is unavailable. * Execute additional duties as assigned by the Department Manager or Director of Maintenance. Technical Expertise & Operations * Inspect and test complex aircraft systems to ensure full operational functionality and airworthiness. * Assist in the diagnoses of mechanical components and systems, including engines, hydraulics, flight controls, and fuel systems, using technical manuals, engineering drawings, and wiring diagrams. * Perform in-flight testing alongside flight crews to evaluate aircraft performance under operational conditions. * Liaise with vendors and technical support teams to procure and implement critical engineering and repair data. * Troubleshoot and rectify aircraft discrepancies, maintaining detailed records of all corrective actions taken. Project Oversight & Leadership * Provide strategic oversight of aircraft projects, maintaining strict control over timelines and deliverables. * Monitor team performance, reporting to the Department Manager on productivity, work quality, and adherence to safety protocols. * Review personnel qualifications and assist in manpower allocation to maximize departmental efficiency. * Consult on technical matters as the primary point of contact for assigned aircraft and specialized projects. * Support project planning by reviewing work scopes for incoming aircraft to determine required labor, parts, and equipment. Compliance, Safety & Administration * Ensure regulatory compliance by verifying that all technical paperwork and certifications are accurately completed and signed. * Manage inventory integrity by overseeing the proper tagging and storage of "work in progress" components and parts. * Facilitate administrative workflows, including the creation of work orders and the procurement of necessary parts and services. * Uphold company standards by strictly adhering to all established policies, procedures, and safety directives. * Promote a professional environment by demonstrating respect and high ethical standards in all workplace interactions. Professional Experience & Qualifications * Senior Avionics Expertise: Minimum of 10 years of experience in avionics maintenance, troubleshooting, and system integration. * Demonstrated Leadership: A proven track record or a strong desire to lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing technical team. * Technical Mentorship: Ability to bridge the gap between complex avionics theory and practical application for junior technicians and apprentices. * Aviation Excellence: Extensive background in working with sophisticated aircraft electronics, ensuring all work meets rigorous safety and regulatory standards.
