Description The Avionics Manager at PremierMRO’s Dayton facility is a highly skilled avionics expert responsible for overseeing all avionics maintenance, troubleshooting, installations, and upgrades performed at the MRO. This role leads on-site avionics personnel, manages vendor coordination, ensures compliance with FAA regulations and Part 145 Repair Station requirements, and supports both PremierMRO’s operations and third-party customer aircraft. The Avionics Manager will also act as a technical advisor to customers, effectively communicating complex avionics solutions, recommending upgrades, and identifying opportunities to enhance aircraft capabilities, all while leading and developing a growing team of avionics professionals. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Leadership & Team Development Provide mentorship and coaching to avionics technicians, fostering a high-performing, growing team. Lead technician training, professional development, and skills growth to meet evolving fleet and customer needs. Manage staffing, scheduling, and workload allocation for the avionics team. Promote a culture of safety, quality, accountability, and continuous improvement. Technical Expertise Serve as the go-to expert for all avionics systems, including troubleshooting, installations, upgrades, and modifications. Oversee maintenance of key avionics systems, including: Communication and navigation systems Flight management systems (FMS) Autopilot and flight control systems GPS, ADS-B, TCAS, weather radar, and SATCOM Provide advanced technical guidance on complex avionics issues, ensuring adherence to OEM, FAA, and company standards. Support AOG troubleshooting and time-critical avionics problem resolution. Customer Engagement & Sales Support Act as the primary avionics technical liaison with customers. Explain technical solutions, upgrades, and maintenance recommendations clearly and confidently to aircraft owners and operators. Identify and upsell avionics solutions by highlighting safety, reliability, operational efficiency, and value improvements. Collaborate with sales and service teams to provide estimates, proposals, and technical justification for work packages. Part 145 Repair Station Responsibilities Ensure all avionics maintenance complies with FAA Part 145 Repair Station requirements, including Repair Station Manual (RSM), Quality Control Manual (QCM), and approved training programs. Represent PremierMRO’s avionics leadership in support of the Part 145 certificate, ensuring adherence to all regulatory, quality, and procedural standards. Support FAA audits, inspections, and surveillance related to avionics operations. Ensure all technicians are trained, qualified, and authorized under Part 145. Oversee proper use of approved data, tooling, calibrated equipment, and technical references. Ensure all avionics work packages, maintenance releases, and records meet Part 145 documentation and return-to-service standards. MRO Operations & Vendor Coordination Manage daily avionics operations at the Dayton MRO facility, including staffing, workflow, and resource planning. Coordinate avionics work for both PremierMRO and third-party customer aircraft. Oversee avionics upgrades, retrofits, and modification projects. Manage vendor relationships, ensuring quality, timeliness, and cost-effectiveness. Support estimating, quoting, and project timeline management for avionics work. Compliance, Quality & Operational Support Maintain strict compliance with FAA, OEM, and company standards. Ensure accurate maintenance records, logbooks, and avionics documentation. Track and implement applicable Service Bulletins and Airworthiness Directives. Provide technical support during AOG events and unscheduled maintenance to minimize downtime. Requirements Recognized expert in aircraft avionics systems with a minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience. FAA Repairman Certification RVSM/FAR 91.411 and 91.413 Certified. Experience working in an MRO or Part 145 repair station environment. Current QC Inspection Capability at Level II RII Strong knowledge of business aviation avionics systems, troubleshooting, and upgrades. Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, and technical manuals. Proven leadership skills with experience developing and growing a technical team. Strong customer-facing communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical solutions and support upsell opportunities. Solid understanding of FAA maintenance regulations and documentation standards. Preferred FCC General Radiotelephone Operator License (GROL). Prior avionics supervisory or management experience. Experience supporting multiple aircraft types in business aviation. Avionics installation and modification project experience. Work Environment & Schedule Primarily on-site at the Dayton MRO facility. May require occasional travel for vendor oversight or customer support. On-call availability for AOG and operational needs. Physical Requirements Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Ability to climb ladders, work in confined spaces, and stand or kneel for extended periods.
