La Mission communautaire Montréal (MCM) est un organisme communautaire qui vient en aide aux personnes im/migrantes depuis 1910. Elle est reconnue pour sa quête de promotion de la justice sociale, la défense des droits de la personne et le respect de la dignité humaine.
Notre clinique juridique spécialisée en droit de l’immigration humanitaire, Solutions Justes, et son programme Roger Snelling, se distingue comme l’une des rares cliniques au Québec à offrir un service d’information, d’accompagnement et de représentation juridique totalement gratuit en matière de droit de l’immigration humanitaire et des réfugiés. Une proportion élevée de personnes que nous rencontrons démontre des facteurs de vulnérabilité, incluant des besoins en santé mentale, précarité financière, l’âge, ou violences familiales ou conjugales. Les cliniques juridiques de la MCM s’engagent à renforcer l’accès à la justice pour les personnes les plus vulnérables de notre société. Le projet actuel vise à améliorer l’accès à la justice en développant nos services par un point d’accès dans la ville de Québec, dans le cadre de la nouvelle antenne de la MCM.

QUALIFICATIONS ET COMPÉTENCES

  • Être en règle auprès du Barreau du Québec ;
  • Bonne connaissance des enjeux, des lois, des politiques et des programmes en matière d’immigration et d’intervention interculturelle au Québec et au Canada; une expérience antérieure dans ce domaine ou notamment dans le milieu communautaire est un atout ;
  • Facilité à travailler en équipe ;
  • Autonomie, intégrité, diplomatie ;
  • Excellente éthique professionnelle et une bonne gestion du temps et des priorités ;
  • Excellentes compétences communicationnelles et rédactionnelles en anglais et en français ;
  • Des expériences vécues en tant que personne réfugiée, migrante, im·migrante, ou sans statut sont un atout.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • Be a member in good standing of the Barreau du Québec
  • Strong knowledge of immigration issues, laws, policies, and programs, as well as intercultural practices in Québec and Canada; previous experience in this field or in the community sector is an asset
  • Ability to work well in a team
  • Autonomy, integrity, and diplomacy
  • Excellent professional ethics, along with strong time and priority management skills
  • Excellent communication and writing skills in both English and French
  • Lived experience as a refugee, migrant, immigrant, or person without status is considered an asset
Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Executive Director and the Legal Clinic’s Coordination Team.

1) Legal Information

  • Conduct initial intakes with new clients (by phone, email, or in person);
  • Carry out legal research and provide legal information through individual information sessions on topics related to our mandate;
  • Support migrants in need of legal information;
  • Refer clients to other legal or community resources as needed.

2) Case Management

  • Under the supervision of the clinic’s supervising lawyer, draft and submit immigration applications to the appropriate government authorities and support the work of other legal professionals at the clinic as needed;
  • Conduct research on country conditions as well as legal research to support the preparation of immigration applications;
  • Perform necessary case follow-ups, including drafting additional written submissions, advocacy letters, and other one-time interventions for clients as needed;
  • Provide emotional support to clients, with the assistance of the broader team.

3) Community Connections

  • Establish connections and partnerships with local stakeholders ;
  • In collaboration with colleagues, represent the MCM at appropriate and relevant events within the community and legal sectors.

4) Administration and Other Tasks

  • Participate in the establishment of the MCM in the city of Québec ;
  • Work with colleagues to develop new training sessions/workshops and other informational tools ;
  • In collaboration with the supervising lawyer, keep the lawyer referral list up to date
  • Update the database ;
  • Support management, particularly with annual reports and other communication tools, by sharing up-to-date statistics and client testimonials ;
  • Contribute to the organization’s fundraising efforts.

5) Work with Students and Volunteers

  • In collaboration with colleagues, ensure a presence and supervise the work of students and volunteers during opening hours ;
  • Review students’ work and provide ongoing feedback regarding their tasks, interventions, and note-taking ;
  • Establish connections with Laval University and follow up on the management of interns

6) General Tasks

  • Participate in team meetings ;
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the coordination team or the director;
  • Travel to Montréal once a month to attend team meetings.
