GENERAL SUMMARY:

Leading the West Region in our Absence Operations space, we are looking for an experienced and accomplished operational leader who can lead a large operation in a complex and ever-changing environment, delivering Total Leave service to our clients and claimants.
This leadership role will focus on delivering the optimal customer Total Leave experience through a combination of people, process, and technology. The leader will deliver results via strategic focus delivering a consistent, reliable, and high-quality service every day, creating a great experience for our clients and our people and driving continuous improvement in everything we do. The role requires partnership across Absence Operations and Field leaders and frequent client and broker engagement. In addition the Absence Operations space continues to change rapidly so we’re looking for a leader who can combine operational effectiveness with technology and execution through people and new processes.
The incumbent has the overall responsibility of ensuring thorough, fair and objective claim evaluations for leave and disability benefits managed via new transformational technology, providing the highest level of quality service to our customers, proactively assisting our insureds in their inquiries and return to work efforts, and defending the company against fraudulent or illegitimate claims.

In partnership with senior leadership, this position requires long range, strategic thinking combined with short-term process efficiency with a focus on building integrated operations that provide high service levels and quality while consistently decreasing unit costs.

  • Oversee the execution of digital adoption programs inclusive of understanding and problem solving on challenges to adoption
  • Develop strategies to overcome obstacles and weak points specific to digital adoption
  • Measure ROI of digital adoption
  • Lead scaling effort of existing Navilink customers to the new operations in the Total Leave environment, as well as the onboarding of new Total Leave customers within their respective regions, overseeing the phased buildout of a high-volume operation with goal of delivering a differentiated experience in the market through significant technology investment and continuous improvement process orientation
  • Monitors claims volume and caseload assumptions, partnering with Finance to make appropriate staffing adjustments to ensure a superior customer experience; identify creative staffing solutions to ensure capacity stabilization when appropriate
  • In partnership with IT leaders and with team, co-develop technology solutions and ensure appropriate user testing plans within the Agile framework.
  • Identify and execute on opportunities for process improvement and improved operational excellence to have a direct impact on the efficiency and profitability of all size Total Leave segment.
  • Partner closely with GTM and digital transformation leaders to ensure solutions are supportive of the frontline employee experience and implementation activities are appropriately planned
  • Strategize, build, and execute on solutions to complex problems, requiring a high degree of ingenuity, creativity, and innovation.
  • Responsible for developing and implementing change enablement plans, including championing a cultural change towards a digital centric organization, focused on end-to-end customer experience, operational excellence, forward looking insights, process management, and efficiency.
  • Engage directly with external customers when requested for stewardship/strategy discussions and service escalations requiring leadership involvement
  • May perform other duties as assigned

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s preferred
  • Seven+ years of relevant industry experience
  • Ability to identify market trends and needs; develop, execute and appropriately communicate solutions, both internally and externally
  • Able to design and execute on a vision that brings together technology, digital influencers, streamlined processes and people to create an exceptional client experience and delivers efficiencies
  • Understanding and experience leading an operation through use of OMS tools to create a culture of continuous improvement
  • Must have strong understanding of absence management services and marketplace
  • A high degree of leadership, strategic planning and business acumen are required with a track record of producing strong results, making effective decisions, and executing at a tactical level as needed

The base salary range for applicants for this position is listed below. Unless actual salary is indicated above in the job description, actual pay will be based on skill, geographical location and experience.
$114,100.00-$215,700.00
Additionally, Unum offers a portfolio of benefits and rewards that are competitive and comprehensive including healthcare benefits (health, vision, dental), insurance benefits (short & long-term disability), performance-based incentive plans, paid time off, and a 401(k) retirement plan with an employer match up to 5% and an additional 4.5% contribution whether you contribute to the plan or not.
