JOB SUMMARY We have two Assistant Vice President, Ambulatory Operations roles. One will have oversight of our main campus and the other will have oversight for our regional sites. This role will report to the Associate Vice President and Chief Operations Officer for Ambulatory Services (COO), this position is responsible for providing leadership for activities related to the successful management of a portfolio of UTSW outpatient clinics. The Assistant VP of Ambulatory Operations sets the strategic direction for assigned clinics in collaboration with department, health system and ambulatory executive leadership. The Assistant VP of Ambulatory Operations is responsible for providing direction and leadership to achieve operational quality, productivity and efficiency of assigned portfolio. The Assistant VP is also responsible for oversight of performance and ensures an optimal operational infrastructure is in place to support clinical enterprise expansion and health system objectives. EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION Required Education Master's Degree in business administration, health care administration, public health, nursing, or a related discipline Bachelor's Degree and additional years of directly related work experience may be considered in lieu of Master's degree Experience 10+ years of health care management experience, including at least 5 years at the Director level or above in ambulatory practice management Preferred Experience Experience in an academic medical setting is preferred Licenses and Certifications RN licensure in the state of Texas, or professional certification by the American College of Healthcare Executives (FACHE) or the American College of Medical Practice Executives (CMPE/FACMPE) is preferred JOB DUTIES STRATEGIC DIRECTION In collaboration with the COO for Ambulatory Services, the Assistant Vice President, Ambulatory Operations is responsible for the strategic direction and management for assigned portfolio of ambulatory clinics, working collaboratively with the Clinical Department Chairs, Medical Directors, directors and Clinic Managers, to develop, implement, and manage patient care delivery/processes in the outpatient setting that provides high quality clinical care and service in a safe, efficient, and cost-effective manner Works closely with executive leadership to ensure clinical operations are aligned with the mission, vision, and values of UTSW ambulatory operations Collaborates with the Ambulatory Services Committee, clinic, and department leadership to direct the translation of strategic priorities into daily operations in alignment with health system goals and objectives Provides strategic vision and direction to effectively manage industry and regulatory changes, mitigates rising healthcare expenses, and implements cost control measures without compromising the quality of services delivered Establishes strategic vision for prioritizing and organizing job roles and work distribution to align with leading practice trends Actively participates in various health system steering committees to affect and implement change Stays abreast of and communicates shifts in healthcare trends, develops strategic mitigation plans and coordinates with internal and external stakeholders Serve as the spokesperson for UTSW to internal and external organizations, including governmental agencies as assigned BUDGET RESPONSIBILITY Has full oversight for operational and financial performance of assigned clinics while establishing an operating model that is efficient and leads to high-quality patient outcomes Creates expense budget for assigned clinics and presents budget recommendations to COO of Ambulatory Services for approval Monitors budget performance LEADERSHIP Accountable for performance management and results of assigned area Implements improvements in work processes that create efficiency and effectiveness of ambulatory operations Leads UTSW initiatives as requested Creates impactful managerial reports for appropriate distribution and creates monitoring tools to ensure accuracy in all aspects of operations Identifies opportunities for improved efficiency through processes improvement and automation, and monitors impact of changes Coordinates and collaborates with key stakeholders to ensure strategic alignment with broader organizational goals and objectives Works across the system with peers to coordinate and oversee care standards Functions effectively in a Matrix Management environment PEOPLE Leads strategically through developing, mentoring direct reports and empowering staff Demonstrate leadership and commitment to staff and colleagues by accepting accountability for outcomes, sharing timely information, building effective relationships, and communicating clearly and directly Develop direct reports to meet goals, budget, and performance metrics including patient access, patient flow, patient satisfaction, revenue cycle metrics, and physician productivity measures. Collaborates with the department/health system's clinical leadership to ensure performance metrics, patient safety and regulatory compliance are met Ensure staff are adequately trained in the latest industry standards in patient care Manages and oversees staff performance through performance planning, coaching and performance appraisals Develops employee engagement strategies to promote employee satisfaction, retention, and talent acquisition Approves initiation of any needed disciplinary proceedings for staff, in consultation with Human Resources PROCESS Promotes a culture of customer service aimed at creating an optimal patient experience and a collaborative work environment Ensures staff comply with established policies, processes, and quality assurance programs Implements process improvement opportunities to realize efficiencies and consistently evaluate outcomes for alignment across clinical enterprise with the strategic vision set forth by Health System Manages space utilization needs in collaboration with ambulatory executive leadership.
