JOB SUMMARY AND QUALIFICATIONS

We are seeking a highly skilled AVP to spearhead the oversight, development, implementation, and evaluation of potential risks associated with clinical documentation improvement opportunities. This role focuses on clinical documentation integrity (CDI), coding queries/nudges, and digital transformation and innovation initiatives, including the use of artificial intelligence and machine learning. The AVP will work as part of a multidisciplinary team, develop comprehensive compliance programs, and serve as a subject matter expert on critical company initiatives.

  • Provide exceptional leadership and robust support to a multidisciplinary team, ensuring compliance oversight of AI-related programs.
  • Design and develop the company’s comprehensive clinical documentation compliance program, encompassing policies, procedures, and educational initiatives.
  • Proactively identify, clearly communicate, and direct strategic actions to effectively address key clinical documentation compliance risks.
  • Drive the strategic and tactical development, seamless implementation, and diligent maintenance of compliance projects.
  • Serve as a recognized subject matter expert and an influential industry leader in clinical documentation oversight.
  • Oversee the creation, deployment, and continuous maintenance of regulatory and compliance education and training programs.
  • Evaluate review results to pinpoint trends and systemic issues, facilitating prompt and effective action steps for resolution.
  • Monitor performance meticulously and communicate proactively with relevant parties to ensure continuous regulatory system readiness.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement and revise processes to enhance compliance and streamline workflows.
  • Identify and share best practices, staying abreast of current industry standards and facilitating standardization across the organization.
  • Review existing policies and recommend strategic revisions, ensuring compliance with HCA policies and procedures.
  • Provide in-depth data analysis of identified metrics, interpret complex data sets, and report findings to corporate entities.
  • Provide strategic and management leadership for compliance relative to projects, including clinical documentation improvement, computer-assisted coding, EHR implementation, and physician queries.
  • Provide subject matter expertise and strategic guidance on key company initiatives (e.g., financial reporting, HAC, core measures, CMI, NCD/LCD).
  • Communicate routinely to department leadership and stakeholders regarding significant issues, project status, and successes.
  • Oversee and provide input into the maintenance of clinical documentation standards, templates, and guidelines.
  • Conduct regular reviews of clinical documentation to identify areas for improvement and ensure compliance.
  • Some travel may be required – up to 25%

Qualifications:

  • 10 years of healthcare experience.
  • 7 years in a leadership/management role.
  • Preferred 5-7 years of clinical experience, especially related to coding or clinical documentation compliance.
  • Experience with Digital Transformation and Innovation initiatives is highly desirable.
  • Experience in overseeing clinical documentation in a large healthcare organization.
  • Proven track record of improving clinical documentation quality and efficiency.
  • Bachelor’s degree required - Medical, Nursing, Health Information Management, or a related field preferred
  • Master’s degree in a related field preferred.
  • Preferred: Certification in Healthcare Compliance (CHC) or Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or Certified Clinical Documentation Specialist (CCDS) or related certification
