The complexity of operating CIAM across multiple jurisdictions, product lines, and platforms requires strong engineering leadership that unifies strategy and delivery. AVP, CIAM Engineering will be accountable for advancing TD’s authentication and identity proofing capabilities, enabling frictionless customer experiences while maintaining industry-leading security and compliance. This role will drive the technical vision and engineering execution that enables secure, seamless, and human-centered customer experiences across all TD channels – digital, branch, call center. The role combines strategic architecture, operational leadership, and innovation excellence to ensure the platform continues to scale, perform, and deliver measurable value to the business. The AVP will also champion a culture of CIAM innovation, empowering engineers to experiment, learn, and deliver new ideas through proofs of concept, automation, and applied AI initiatives. Finally, this leader will build and nurture the right talent and partner ecosystem - fostering a high-performing, empowered team while engaging strategic vendor and delivery partners to achieve shared outcomes. They will demonstrate fiscal discipline and sound commercial judgment, ensuring that investments in innovation, platforms, and partnerships deliver maximum value for TD. Engineering Leadership and Accountability: This role provides end-to-end technical accountability for the CIAM platform – from architecture and build to deployment and operations. The AVP will lead engineering teams responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining scalable identity solutions across channels and business lines. Identity Proofing & Authentication Excellence: Focus on building and evolving TD’s core identity services – including identity proofing, customer onboarding, authentication, multi-factor authentication (MFA), and authorization – using secure, cloud-native architectures and modern identity protocols. Key Responsibilities Lead the engineering design, build, and operation of TD’s enterprise CIAM platform across North America. Define and execute a scalable technology roadmap for authentication, identity proofing, and access management. Partner with channel teams and product owners to integrate CIAM capabilities into customer journeys. Drive modernization of legacy systems toward cloud-native, API-first architectures with strong DevSecOps and CI/CD practices. Ensure high availability, performance, and resilience of the CIAM stack. Build and mentor a high-performing team of engineers and technical leads. Collaborate with Fraud, Cyber, and Enterprise Architecture teams to embed advanced detection, adaptive risk, and zero trust principles into identity flows. Champion compliance and regulatory readiness across all identity platforms. Qualifications: 10+ years in enterprise-scale identity and access management engineering leadership. Deep expertise in identity proofing, authentication, MFA, OAuth2, OIDC, SAML, and cloud-native identity platforms (Ping, ForgeRock, Okta, Azure AD). Proven experience leading engineering delivery across geographies. Strong collaboration and stakeholder management skills with product and risk partners. Demonstrated success in balancing innovation, speed, and operational excellence. Excellent communication, leadership skills Strong relationship management skills, conflict resolution, ability to prioritize competing priorities and in-depth program management Ability to navigate through ambiguity and matrix banking environment The candidate must excel in stakeholder engagement, resource management, and financial management.
