AVP, REINSURANCE CONTRACT DRAFTER – FULLY REMOTE

This role offers an exceptional opportunity for an experienced contract professional to join the Stamford-based Contracts Team as an Assistant Vice President (AVP), Reinsurance Contract Drafter. This is a fully remote role that will require travel to Stamford, CT once a quarter.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum 7+ years of experience in reinsurance or insurance contract drafting, underwriting, legal, product development, or claims.
  • Strong working knowledge of reinsurance principles, terminology, and contract structures.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in drafting legal or technical documents.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to explain complex terms clearly and concisely.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple assignments and deadlines with a proactive, solutions-oriented mindset.
  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degrees or industry designations (e.g., CPCU, Are) required.
Responsibilities

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Draft and review proprietary and industry-standard policy forms, endorsements, and reinsurance agreements.
  • Translate underwriting intent into clearly worded, enforceable reinsurance contracts using corporate templates, client-specific clauses, and negotiated terms.
  • Develop tailored policy and endorsement wording to meet client-specific needs across various lines of business.
  • Provide guidance to underwriters by interpreting policy language and ensuring alignment between coverage intent and documentation.
  • Oversee the organization and upkeep of contractual resources and documentation in collaboration with the contracts and legal teams.
  • Lead or participate in departmental projects focused on improving contract development processes, operational efficiency, and compliance.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Monitor industry trends and regulatory changes impacting reinsurance contract language.
  • Develop subject matter expertise in specific lines of business to improve contract precision and effectiveness.
  • Serve as a key liaison between underwriting, claims, legal, and compliance teams to enhance contract quality and clarity.
  • Set high performance standards and consistently work toward achieving individual and team goals.
  • Balance multiple drafting priorities and manage timelines in a high-volume, fast-paced environment.
