Description SCHEDULE: 16 hours, Saturday-Sunday 11PM-730AM; this position is essential in the event of a weather or other emergency. Pays$21.40 per hour DOE This position carries a retention payment of $3,000.00, $1,000.00 payable at 12 months, and $2,000.00 at 24 months LOCATION: 8 Grove Street, Chelsea, MA. This position works 100% on site. SUMMARY OF THE POSITION: The NBVH Evening Counselor will provide an awake evening presence, conduct regular rounds throughout the building, be accessible to tenants, assisting with regular daily tenant wellness checks, overseeing occupancy agreement and house rule compliance, setting limits when appropriate, and providing crisis intervention as necessary. The incumbent will contribute to the physical upkeep of the building by noting any housekeeping or maintenance issues that arise during their shift, resolving these problems where possible and forwarding these concerns to appropriate staff for later resolution when necessary. The NBVH Evening Counselor will be an important member of a team, which has as its goal assisting our tenants to achieve the very highest possible quality of life. Requirements EDUCATION/TRAINING: REQUIRED: High School Diploma or GED Basic computer literacy using the current versions of Windows, Word and Outlook English Literacy Some prior training in human services or experience working in the field PREFERRED: Counseling and/or Security experience Advanced training in human services work KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE: REQUIRED: Minimum of one (1) year of prior work experience working with individuals suffering from complex disabilities in a shelter, community residence, or in an inpatient setting Excellent written and verbal communication skills Experience providing good written documentation (paper/digital log) PREFERRED: Familiarity with Harm Reduction approach to working with people with Behavioral Health challenges Experience using Crisis Intervention Knowledge of substance abuse issues and mental illness Previous experience working with a Housing First/Low Barrier model Experience working with the homeless population Knowledge of or experience with CPI, First Aid, and/or Narcan Training Familiarity with the concepts of rehabilitation and consumer empowerment Experience working with veterans Experience assisting people with ADL skills
