Role Summary:
The Azure Data Fabric Engineer will be instrumental in modernizing our data and application services as we transition from on-premises colocation facilities to Microsoft Azure as part of our comprehensive digital transformation. This role will collaborate closely with the Enterprise Data Services team and Enterprise Application Services team to architect and implement scalable data solutions, including migrations to Azure SQL Managed Instances and comprehensive data ingestion into Microsoft Fabric. The successful candidate will design and build the foundational data infrastructure that will enable advanced analytics and drive operational excellence across our global helicopter operations.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

  • 5+ years of data engineering experience with 3+ years focused on Azure data platforms and SQL Server environments
  • Proven experience with database migrations, particularly SQL Server to Azure SQL Managed Instance transitions
  • Strong background in Microsoft Fabric implementation or similar enterprise data platform deployments
  • Experience collaborating with Enterprise Data Services and Application Services teams in large organizations
  • Track record of successful on-premises to cloud data platform migrations

SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE

  • Data Modeling: Experience with dimensional modeling, data warehouse design, and lakehouse architectures
  • Performance Tuning: Skills in query optimization, indexing strategies, and data partitioning for large-scale systems
  • Data Governance: Understanding of data catalogs, lineage tracking, and metadata management within Fabric environments
  • Security & Compliance: Knowledge of data encryption, access controls, and regulatory compliance in aviation industry
  • Monitoring & Observability: Experience with Azure Monitor, Application Insights, and custom monitoring solutions for data platforms

LOCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • This is remote work position based anywhere in Poland working Monday through Friday
  • Eligible to work in Poland (citizenship, permanent residency, or valid work visa)
  • Available for after-hours support and emergency response as needed
  • Willing to travel within Poland for remote site visits (typically 15-20% travel)

Responsibilities
  • Data Platform Implementation: Design and implement Microsoft Fabric solutions including Data Factory, Synapse Analytics, and Power BI to create a unified analytics platform for helicopter operations and maintenance data
  • Database Migration Leadership: Lead migrations from on-premises SQL Server databases to Azure SQL Managed Instances, ensuring minimal downtime and optimal performance for mission-critical aviation applications
  • Data Ingestion Architecture: Build robust data ingestion pipelines using Azure Data Factory and Fabric Data Pipelines to collect data from helicopter telemetry, maintenance systems, ERP platforms, and operational applications
  • Enterprise Integration: Collaborate with Enterprise Application Services team to integrate legacy applications with modern Azure data services, ensuring seamless data flow across the organization
  • Real-time Data Processing: Implement streaming data solutions using Azure Event Hubs and Fabric Real-Time Analytics to process live helicopter operational data and maintenance events
  • Data Lake Management: Design and maintain scalable data lake architectures using OneLake and Azure Data Lake Storage Gen2 for structured and unstructured aviation data
  • Performance Optimization: Monitor and optimize data pipelines, queries, and storage solutions to ensure high-performance analytics and reporting capabilities
  • Security Implementation: Apply data security best practices including encryption, access controls, and compliance frameworks aligned with aviation industry regulations
  • Fabric Workspace Management: Configure and manage Microsoft Fabric workspaces, including capacity planning, governance policies, and user access management
  • Data Quality Assurance: Implement data validation, cleansing, and monitoring processes to ensure data integrity and reliability for operational decision-making
  • Automation & DevOps: Develop Infrastructure as Code (IaC) solutions and CI/CD pipelines for automated deployment of data infrastructure and applications
  • Documentation & Training: Create technical documentation, data lineage mapping, and provide training to support teams on Fabric capabilities and best practice
