Bag Check Department New York State Fair Syracuse, NY Posting Dates: July 10, 2026- August 1, 2026 Calling all Certified Security Guards! The Department of Agriculture and Markets is actively seeking motivated individuals to join the Bag Check Department for this year's 2026 Great New York State Fair! If you are detail-oriented and are committed to ensuring a safe and secure environment for all fairgoers, we encourage you to apply. In this role, you will be instrumental in maintaining the integrity of the Fair by inspecting bags for prohibited items, contributing directly to the overall safety and enjoyment of everyone attending. We are seeking dedicated individuals who can commit to working flexible shifts throughout the entire 13-day duration of the Great New York State Fair. These dynamic positions offer competitive hourly wages between $20.37-$31.19, commensurate with the specific role and responsibilities you are assigned. To be eligible for these positions, applicants need one of the following:  8-hour security course completion certificate, unexpired security guard license, be an active military member, or be an active or retired police officer. These dynamic, hands-on positions involve working outdoors in various weather conditions.                                                  The duties below encompass a range of responsibilities focused on ensuring security and a positive experience for guests Key Duties: Bag Screening: Involves meticulously inspecting all bags to identify and confiscate any prohibited items, thereby preventing potential security breaches. Access Control: Requires managing the flow of people entering a venue or area, ensuring that only authorized individuals gain entry and that entry rules are applied fairly and consistently.  Guest Interaction: Interactions with guests are crucial for providing clear and helpful information to visitors, answering their questions, and always maintaining a courteous and professional attitude to foster a welcoming environment. Safety Monitoring: Demands constant vigilance to detect any potential hazards, unsafe conditions, or suspicious activities, and to promptly report any concerns to the appropriate authorities. License Compliance: Ensures that all security personnel hold a valid guard license and adhere strictly to all relevant laws and regulations governing their profession, guaranteeing that operations are conducted legally and ethically.
