Description As a member of the Back of House team, you will be responsible for food preparation, cooking, cleanliness, and overall kitchen operations. Your role is crucial in maintaining the high standards of food quality, safety, and efficiency. You will work closely with other BOH and Front of House (FOH) staff to ensure that orders are prepared to specification and delivered to guests in a timely manner. Requirements Key Responsibilities: Food Preparation: Prepare ingredients and components for dishes in accordance with the restaurant's menu. Ensure that all ingredients are fresh, stored properly, and meet quality standards. Follow recipe specifications, portion control guidelines, and cooking instructions accurately. Cooking and Food Assembly: Cook food items according to standardized recipes, ensuring consistency and quality. Assemble dishes according to the chef’s or customer’s specifications. Ensure all food is cooked to the appropriate temperatures for safety and quality. Cleaning and Sanitation: Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen, including counters, stations, utensils, and cooking equipment. Follow Vermont health and safety regulations regarding food handling, sanitation, and hygiene. Ensure that work areas are sanitized regularly to prevent cross-contamination and foodborne illnesses. Inventory Management: Monitor inventory levels of “on line” ingredients and kitchen supplies, ensuring that items are stocked and readily available. Assist in receiving deliveries and storing food and supplies properly. Notify the manager or head chef when inventory needs replenishing or any kitchen related issues. Asking management for guidance or assistance with any machinery or recipes. Kitchen Equipment Maintenance: Use kitchen equipment (e.g., ovens, grills, fryers, knives) properly and ensure they are well-maintained. Report any malfunctions or issues with kitchen equipment to the management team for timely repairs. Collaborating with the Team: Work efficiently with other kitchen staff, including Chefs, line cooks, dishwashers, FOH, and prep staff. Ensure communication is clear between BOH and FOH staff to ensure timely and accurate food orders. Assist in training new BOH staff as needed. Clocking in to your shift on time and ready to work. Adherence to Health and Safety Standards: Comply with all food safety regulations, including proper food storage, labeling, handling, and sanitation practices. Maintain knowledge of allergy protocols and dietary restrictions to ensure safe food preparation. Follow workplace safety procedures to avoid accidents and injuries. Skills & Qualifications: Previous Experience: Experience in a kitchen or foodservice environment is preferred but not required. Food Safety Knowledge: Knowledge of Vermont food safety regulations and practices. Teamwork: Ability to work collaboratively with other kitchen and service staff. Attention to Detail: Ability to follow instructions accurately and ensure food quality and consistency. Physical Stamina: Ability to stand for long periods, lift heavy objects, and work in a fast-paced environment. Time Management: Ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently, especially during peak service times. Communication Skills: Strong ability to communicate effectively with other team members and supervisors. Environment: Fast-paced and high-pressure environment, particularly during busy meal services. Flexible working hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays as required. The kitchen environment can be hot, loud, and involve the use of sharp knives and other equipment. Uniforms or protective gear may be required, including non-slip shoes and aprons. 2 Staff shirts are provided by your first shift.
