About the Role As a Backend Software Engineer (m/f/d) – Cloud & Platform Solutions at DRIVE Consulting, you will support clients in developing, operating, and continuously improving modern cloud-based software platforms within industrial and automotive environments. Your focus will be on backend software development, AWS cloud architectures, system integration, and the implementation of security and safety-related requirements. In addition, you will analyze complex technical issues, contribute to sustainable solutions, and help ensure the stability, scalability, and security of mission-critical software platforms. You will be part of a growing international setup, contributing to the development of our new DRIVE location in Bucharest. Working closely with cross-functional engineering teams, you will help shape scalable software architectures, drive technical excellence, and deliver high-impact solutions through a proactive, ownership-driven, and collaborative approach. Your Responsibilities Design, develop, and continuously improve backend components and cloud-based services for modern software platforms Contribute to the development, operation, and continuous optimization of AWS-based cloud and platform architectures Analyze, specify, and implement security and safety requirements following secure software engineering principles Develop and maintain AWS-based cloud services and distributed system components Implement and maintain integrations between AWS-based cloud services and adjacent enterprise systems and platforms Analyze complex technical incidents, identify root causes, and implement sustainable long-term solutions to ensure stable platform operation Perform code reviews and actively contribute to architecture discussions and technical design decisions Utilize modern software engineering practices, AI-assisted development tools, and automation to improve development efficiency and software quality Create structured technical documentation, implementation concepts, and architecture-related artifacts Collaborate closely with software engineers, platform teams, and business stakeholders to continuously improve platform stability, scalability, and performance Your Profile Degree in Business Informatics, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a comparable technical field (top universities, very good academic results). Background in automotive, industrial software, Big Tech, or other fast-paced software development environments is highly preferred Experience in consulting, client-facing, or project-driven environments is considered a plus Professional experience in backend software development using Java, Python, or comparable programming languages Strong hands-on experience with AWS, including the development and operation of cloud-based applications and services Experience with DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, Git, Linux environments, and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) Experience with microservices, REST APIs, distributed systems, and system integrations Experience using GitHub Copilot or comparable AI-assisted development tools Basic understanding of Cyber Security, Security-by-Design, Functional Safety, and secure software architectures A strong plus: Experience in developing or integrating AI / machine learning models and frameworks for data-driven automation, predictive analytics, or intelligent system features Experience working in agile development environments and familiarity with Scrum and Jira Strong analytical and structured problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze and resolve complex technical issues Structured working style combined with a strong sense of ownership, accountability, and continuous improvement Ability to collaborate effectively in cross-functional and international project environments Fluent English (mandatory); German is a plus but not required What We Offer Competitive salary and attractive benefits package Exposure to international, high-impact automotive/industrial projects A dynamic environment with real ownership and visibility Hybrid working model The opportunity to actively contribute to building and scaling a new organization About us DRIVE Consulting GmbH is a management consultancy headquartered in Aachen, with additional offices in Munich, Berlin, Beijing, and Shanghai, and a newly established location in Bucharest.
