Description
Company Description Dragonboat is a leading provider of an AI platform for Strategic Product and Portfolio Management, trusted by enterprises around the world. Our Dragonboat AI OS and apps help product and portfolio leaders — and their teams — make smarter decisions, automate manual work, and act on the right data together, driving outcomes across the entire product operating model. Dragonboat is a venture-backed, fast-growing SaaS startup with remote teams in Portugal and the US. Job Description We’re hiring a Backend Engineer to join our Portugal team. At Dragonboat, we operate in a startup and fast-paced environment, where engineers play an active role in shaping the value we deliver to our customers. If you’re excited about building scalable systems, collaborating in an innovative environment, and driving meaningful impact, we’d love to hear from you! You'll have the opportunity to build the product you use daily. Our product is actively used by our teams and customers, driving direct feedback and continuous improvement. You'll be able to see the tangible impact of your work. About the role Portfolio decisions at scale are a hard data problem. Our customers manage thousands of initiatives across hundreds of teams, and they need a platform that can make sense of all of it - fast, reliably, and intelligently. That's the core of what this role is about. You'll work on the systems that power Dragonboat's platform - from the ontology that represents a portfolio to the integrations that keep it in sync with the tools our customers already use. You'll also be building the backend foundations that make AI-powered features possible and production-grade. This is a role for someone who takes deep pride in backend craft, wants real ownership over systems that matter, and moves with urgency. Responsibilities Own and evolve the core platform - the data model, APIs, and services that everything else is built on Design and build the backend systems that power our portfolio intelligence layer, including data aggregation, scoring, and analysis at scale Build and maintain integrations with the tools our customers use daily Make architectural decisions that will hold up as we grow Collaborate directly with product and other engineers to go from problem to solution fast Use agentic coding tools as a first-class part of how you work - not occasionally, but as your default mode Qualifications You may be a good fit if you: Have 4+ years of backend engineering experience and strong opinions about how to build systems that last Are the kind of engineer who owns a problem fully - from the first design conversation to production Move fast without cutting corners, and know the difference Have worked on data-heavy systems and enjoy the craft of getting them right - modeling, querying, optimizing Are already using AI tools heavily in your workflow and have developed a real point of view on how to get the most out of them Communicate clearly, give honest feedback, and don't need much hand-holding Strong candidates may also: Have experience building or scaling integrations with third-party platforms Have worked on multi-tenant SaaS at scale Have built features that surface data-driven insights to end users - not just storing and serving data, but making it meaningful Additional Information How we're different Most engineering teams at this stage have already added layers of process that slow things down. We haven't. At Dragonboat, senior engineers work directly on problems that matter, make real architectural calls, and see the results in production quickly. We're also at a moment where AI is reshaping both how we build and what our product can do - and we want engineers who want to be at the center of that. Come work with us We have a growing engineering team in the US and Portugal. We offer competitive compensation, flexible working hours, and an environment where good engineers can do their best work.
Responsibilities
The engineer will own and evolve the core platform, including the data model, APIs, and services, while designing and building backend systems for portfolio intelligence, data aggregation, and analysis at scale. Responsibilities also include building and maintaining customer integrations and making key architectural decisions for future growth.
