As a Backend Software Engineer on our Insurance Backend team, you’ll join a dynamic, collaborative group of product-minded engineers passionate about building scalable systems for quotes, policies, rating, underwriting, and billing, essential for seamless customer experiences via mobile apps, AI agents, and internal web tools for customers and insurance agents. What You’ll Do
- Develop and maintain scalable backend services in Go and Python for core insurance functions, including quotes, policies, rating, underwriting, and billing
- Collaborate cross-functionally with product managers, QA engineers, frontend teams, and business stakeholders to deliver reliable solutions that drive business impact and enhance customer experiences
- Support system expansion into new markets by designing adaptable, extensible architectures that integrate with AI applications for real-time data processing and decision-making
- Troubleshoot and resolve production issues, ensuring high availability, performance, and security in a high-stakes environment
- Contribute to new feature development, including design reviews, sprint planning, code reviews, and integrating AI-driven capabilities (e.g., machine learning models for personalized rating)
- Drive continuous improvement by identifying technical debt, enhancing system observability (e.g., monitoring and logging), and proposing architecture refinements
- Write clean, testable, and efficient code, adhering to best practices for documentation, automated testing, and deployment in a fast-paced setting
- Mentor junior team members and foster a culture of innovation, ownership, and agency within the team
What You’ll Bring
- 5+ years of experience in backend development (mid- to senior-level), with strong proficiency in Go and Python; experience with similar languages (e.g., C#) is a plus
- Expertise in database management systems (SQL/NoSQL, e.g., MySQL, MongoDB) and API development (RESTful services, GraphQL a plus)
- Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines, containerization (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes), cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure), and version control (Git)
- Strong communication skills for collaborating with technical and non-technical stakeholders, including explaining complex concepts clearly
- Ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and thrive in a fast-paced, innovative environment with high ownership and agency
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience); experience in fintech, insurance, or high-scale systems is highly desirable
- Experience working alongside AI/ML systems, with exposure to real AI applications in production environments is a plus

Expected Compensation
$133,440 - $355,920/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
