Job Title BackOffice Mainframe Technology Application Development Lead, VP Role Summary & Role Description State Street is seeking a senior technology delivery leader to serve as a Mainframe Technology Lead for the Fund Accounting function within Investment Services Technology. This role will provide strategic and hands-on leadership for the development, stabilization, and modernization of core fund accounting platforms built primarily on mainframe technologies, supporting global investment operations. The role acts as a critical bridge between business, operations, and technology, ensuring accurate accounting processing, high system resiliency, regulatory compliance, and controlled modernization of legacy platforms. The ideal candidate brings 18+ years of Financial Services IT experience, with deep expertise in fund accounting systems, mainframe application delivery, and large-scale transformation programs. This is intended to be a senior leadership role (VP-level); final designation will be determined based on experience and overall fit through the evaluation process. As one of the GTS Delivery Leads, you will responsible for: As one of the GTS Delivery Leads, you will be responsible for: Providing end-to-end delivery leadership for Fund Accounting technology platforms, including architecture oversight, application development, enhancements, regulatory changes, and production support Owning the Application Development & Maintenance (ADM) delivery for assigned fund accounting systems and teams across initiatives like GD Simplification, PCC, App Modernization etc. Acting as the primary delivery owner for assigned portfolios, ensuring commitments on scope, quality, cost, and timelines Leading and scaling mainframe-focused delivery teams aligned to investment accounting business lines Providing oversight (and hands-on guidance when needed) across requirements analysis, functional & technical design, testing, UAT support, and production readiness Ensuring high availability, data integrity, accounting accuracy, and operational stability of fund accounting applications Driving modernization initiatives, including: Mainframe optimization and cost efficiency Legacy code rationalization Data modernization and integration with distributed platforms Enablement of API/event-driven architectures where applicable Partnering closely with Fund Accounting business, Operations, Product Control, Risk, and Compliance teams Establishing and monitoring an effective delivery governance and oversight framework, ensuring timely issue identification, escalation, and resolution Embedding a strong risk excellence culture across people, process, and technology, including proactive identification and management of operational and technology risks Leading people management, including: Talent development, coaching, and succession planning Performance management and capability building Employee engagement and attrition management Diversity and inclusion initiatives in partnership with HR Promoting a culture of individual ownership, accountability, and engineering discipline within teams Contributing to horizontal initiatives such as knowledge management, delivery excellence, audit readiness, and enterprise risk controls Working closely with global stakeholders across the US and India, with flexibility to operate across time zones as required Supporting broader hiring, staffing, and leadership responsibilities beyond the immediate team, commensurate with seniority Acting as a functional and technical SME for assigned platforms, with deep understanding of fund accounting business flows and system architecture Core/Must have skills Deep understanding of Fund Accounting, including: NAV calculation Income, expense, and corporate action processing Accounting close cycles Regulatory and financial reporting Strong familiarity with Investment Services / Asset Management operations Good understanding of accounting standards and controls relevant to investment products Strong hands-on experience in mainframe technologies, including: COBOL, JCL, CICS, DB2, IMS (or equivalent) Batch processing, scheduling, and recovery frameworks Proven experience in mainframe application development, enhancements, testing, and production support Experience integrating mainframe systems with distributed or cloud-based platforms Exposure to application modernization initiatives (re-platforming, refactoring, or hybrid architectures) is a strong plus Extensive experience leading large, distributed delivery teams (employees and vendors) Proven track record of delivering large-scale, complex, and transformational programs Strong understanding of SDLC, Agile and hybrid delivery models Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making skills Ability to operate effectively in a matrixed global organization Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence across business and technology Ability to navigate and lead within cross-cultural, globally distributed teams Alignment with a flat, open, and transparent work culture, with a willingness to remain hands-on when required Education & Preferred Qualifications * Engineering Degree, MCA or equivalent * 18+ years of commercial software development, proficient in developing multi-tier solutions * 10+ years of demonstrated ability to lead engineering teams/projects * 10+ years of hands-on experience in mainframe technologies, including: COBOL, JCL, CICS, DB2, IMS (or equivalent) Batch processing, scheduling, and recovery frameworks Work Schedule Hybrid Keywords (If any) Why this role is important to us Our technology function, Global Technology Services (GTS), is vital to State Street and is the key enabler for our business to deliver data and insights to our clients.
