Nesters Market are currently seeking an experienced Bakery Department Manager for our store in Gabriola, BC. This role is full-time and reports to the Store Manager.
We are looking for a strong leader who has a passion for fresh food and who can efficiently oversee the daily operations of the Bakery Department in terms of staffing, sales, customer service, merchandising, and product quality.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Previous retail supervisory experience, preferably in a Bakery / Grocery environment
  • Able to lead a team in an enthusiastic and positive manner
  • Superb customer service skills with a desire to provide a great shopping experience for customers
  • Exceptional leadership and organizational skills
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of health and safety legislation, policies and practices
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment under pressure
  • Able to maintain a professional demeanor under stressful situations
  • Experience in effective merchandising that drives sales
  • Have experience ordering and maintaining department stock
  • Flexibility to work a variety of hours which include days, evenings, weekends and stat holidays

  • Ability to perform physically demanding, repetitive tasks for extended periods of time
  • Job requires manual dexterity, attention to detail, hand-eye co-ordination
  • Walking and standing for extended periods including bending, twisting, crouching and kneeling at times

Responsibilities
  • Provide supervision to department staff to ensure quality customer service
  • Maximize sales and gross profit through effective and creative merchandising
  • Maintain department inventory by placing product orders regularly while adhering to departmental budgets
  • Recruit, hire, train, and mentor staff members
  • Create the weekly department work schedule
  • Prepare and package a wide variety of baked goods
  • Efficiently stock and display product in a neat and appealing manner to ensure quality and freshness
  • Ensure all prepared items are properly labeled, covered and rotated
  • Ensure the proper set up of racks, tables, coolers, backroom areas
  • Handle customer inquiries, requests and complaints in a prompt, polite and effective manner
  • Operate and sanitize all equipment in a safe and proper manner
  • Comply with the Company’s established Health and Safety and Food Safety policies and ensure that staff members are also adhering to these policies
  • Responsible for ensuring accuracy of store signage with regards to pricing
  • Liaise with the store manager, department heads and bakery staff to address any concerns, discuss upcoming ads or promotions, cross merchandising, etc.
