ABOUT SUMMERHILL MARKET

Summerhill Market is a boutique grocery store chain in Toronto, known for its scratch-made prepared foods, exceptional bakery items, and curated grocery selection. Our Rosedale Bakery Kitchen, located above our flagship store, is where the magic happens—fresh breads, pastries, baked goods, and specialty items are produced daily with a commitment to quality, craft, and consistency.
We’re currently looking for an experienced and motivated Bakery Production Manager to lead our afternoon shift team and oversee the production of our renowned baked goods—particularly our artisan-style bread offerings.

POSITION OVERVIEW

This is a hands-on position that requires deep knowledge of bread baking and general bakery production processes, as well as strong team management capabilities. The successful candidate will lead a team of bakers and prep staff to ensure high-quality output, efficient workflow, and ongoing innovation.
This role is based upstairs at our Rosedale location and oversees the afternoon shift, providing production coverage, quality control, and team supervision during a key period of daily bakery operations.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum 5 years of professional bakery experience, with a strong focus on bread production
  • At least 3 years of experience managing bakery or kitchen teams
  • Demonstrated expertise in scratch bread making, including sourdough, enriched doughs, fermentation, shaping, proofing, and baking techniques
  • Strong understanding of general bakery production including pastries, muffins, bars, and baked snack items
  • Valid Food Handler’s Certification (required)
  • Ability to lead by example in a fast-paced production environment
  • Detail-oriented, organized, and committed to quality and consistency
  • Comfortable working in warm environments and lifting up to 50 lbs
  • Available for a steady afternoon shift, with some flexibility as needed
Responsibilities
  • Oversee daily bread production and general bakery prep during the afternoon shift
  • Lead, schedule, and supervise a team of bakers and support staff
  • Hands-on preparation of scratch-baked items, including artisan loaves, buns, rolls, and specialty products
  • Maintain consistency in recipes, techniques, and presentation across all bakery offerings
  • Coordinate production flow to meet store replenishment targets and special orders
  • Ensure ingredient inventory is tracked, rotated, and ordered as needed
  • Monitor and uphold food safety, allergen management, and sanitation standards
  • Train new team members and coach staff in advanced baking techniques and productivity best practices
  • Collaborate with the Executive Baker and other department leads on seasonal offerings, product innovation, and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Maintain cleanliness, organization, and safety in the bakery kitchen at all times
