Description POSITION SUMMARY: The Dance Instructor position will lead engaging and high-quality dance classes for participants of all ages and skill levels. This position is responsible for planning and leading structured dance classes and clinics that align with YMCA values and program goals. This role may involve teaching various dance styles in an engaging, age-appropriate, and inclusive manner. The Dance Instructor provides clear demonstrations, individualized feedback, and proper technique instruction to ensure a positive learning experience. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Plan and lead structured dance classes and summer clinics that align with YMCA values and program goals Teach a variety of dance styles, ensuring instruction is engaging, age-appropriate, and inclusive Foster a welcoming and supportive environment that encourages confidence, creativity, and skill development Provide clear demonstrations, individualized feedback, and proper technique instruction to participants Ensure a safe and positive learning experience by enforcing YMCA policies and best practices. Communicate effectively with students, parents, and YMCA staff regarding class schedules, progress, and performances Assist in organizing end-of-session showcases or special events when applicable Maintain class attendance records and contribute to program evaluation and development Performs any other functions necessary for the smooth and efficient operation of the YMCA of Greater Grand Rapids Association. Requirements QUALIFICATIONS: Prior experience teaching dance and working with children, teens, and/or adults. Proficiency in various dance styles (e.g., ballet, jazz, hip-hop, contemporary, etc.). Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills. CPR, First Aid, and AED certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire). Ability to modify lessons to accommodate different skill levels and learning styles. Passion for dance and a commitment to fostering a positive, inclusive, and engaging environment.
