SYNLAB UK & Ireland have extensive experience of working in partnership with the NHS to deliver and improve pathology services through its existing pathology joint ventures – including Southwest Pathology Services (SPS).
Our team at SPS have been fundamental to the principle of making a positive difference to healthcare within Somerset for 10 years and we have a fantastic opportunity for a Band 4 Associate Practitioner, specialising in Infection Sciences to support the leadership of Southwest Pathology Services at our HUB Laboratory site in Taunton. Our Laboratory holds ISO15189 UKAS accreditation and is a HCPC approved training laboratory.
Hours: 37.5hrs a week – varied 7.5 hour shifts between the hours of 07:30am-8pm / 5 days a week.

Responsibilities
  • Collecting, processing, and preparing clinical samples for testing in line with infection control protocols.
  • Supporting infection prevention and control measures by following standard operating procedures for handling specimens and preventing contamination.
  • Keeping up to date with changes in infection control practices, laboratory procedures, and advancements in the field of microbiology or infection science.
  • Rotate through all areas of the laboratories as required and maintain high professional standards.
  • Perform Biomedical investigations, within operating procedures and protocols, to provide within agreed quality standards of service delivery and turnaround times under the supervision of senior grade BMS grade staff.
  • Utilise the laboratory LIMS, Q-Pulse quality monitoring system and other application software according to authorised protocols including assisting in computer data entry in all areas of the laboratory.
  • Provide supervision, training and professional leadership to junior staff which includes monitoring their performance against laboratory standards and their training plans.
