Job Overview We are seeking an experienced Band 7 Clinical Pharmacist to join the Cancer Services team at Weston General Hospital. You will provide advanced clinical pharmacy input across oncology and haematology services, supporting safe delivery of systemic anti-cancer therapy (SACT), contributing to aseptics/technical services oversight, and leading on medicines optimisation to improve patient outcomes. This is a hands-on role working closely with Consultants, CNSs, Pharmacy Technicians, Aseptic Services, and the wider multidisciplinary team. Key Responsibilities Clinical Care & SACT Provide specialist clinical pharmacy input for oncology/haematology inpatients and day unit patients. Screen and clinically verify SACT prescriptions (including protocol checking, dose calculation, and toxicity management). Participate in patient counselling on SACT, supportive care, and medicines safety. Support treatment pathways, dose adjustments, and management of side effects per national/local policies. Aseptic & Technical Services Liaise with the aseptics unit to ensure safe preparation and timely supply of chemotherapy. Contribute to governance of aseptic processes, incident reviews, and quality assurance. Medicines Optimisation & Governance Lead on high-cost cancer medicines processes, Blueteq/prior approval, and formulary/managed entry. Implement and audit adherence to national standards (e.g., SACT verification, MHRA/UKCPA guidance). Support antimicrobial stewardship within cancer pathways (e.g., febrile neutropenia). Multidisciplinary Working Attend MDTs/ward rounds; provide evidence-based advice on complex regimens, interactions, and organ dysfunction. Liaise with secondary/tertiary centres and Homecare providers for continuity of care. Education & Training Deliver training to junior pharmacists, technicians, nurses, and medical staff on SACT safety and oncology protocols. Supervise rotational staff and contribute to competency frameworks. Digital & Systems Use ePMA/SACT digital systems for prescribing, verification, and documentation (e.g., ChemoCare/ARIA or equivalent). Support data quality, reporting, and service improvement initiatives. Service Development Identify opportunities for pathway improvements, implement change, and measure impact via audits and KPIs. Contribute to policy writing, risk assessments, and incident learning. Qualifications and Experience Essential: MPharm or equivalent plus GPhC registration as a Pharmacist. Postgraduate clinical pharmacy qualification (e.g., Certificate/Diploma) or equivalent experience. Demonstrable experience in oncology/haematology clinical pharmacy and SACT verification. Working knowledge of aseptics and chemotherapy governance. Strong understanding of cancer protocols, pharmacology, dose modifications, and supportive care (antiemetics, G-CSF, etc.). Experience with ePMA and SACT systems; excellent communication and MDT skills. Desirable: Independent Prescribing qualification (IP) or progress toward IP. Experience with Homecare pathways and high-cost drugs approvals (Blueteq). Prior experience in service development, audit, and guideline writing. Familiarity with regional cancer networks and national oncology standards. Why Choose Pulse Dedicated consultant support (you’ll be working directly with Mimi at Pulse).
