Job Title: Housekeeper Reports to: Estates Manager Base: Riverdale Grange Role Purpose: To ensure the hospital and surrounding environment meets and maintains a high standard of cleanliness, in compliance with all Health and Safety Regulations and is fit for purpose. To ensure compliance with COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 2002). To be aware of and comply with current Company policies, procedures and current legislation relating to, Equal Opportunities and Health and Safety. Assist in the ordering and maintenance of stock.
To ensure that all equipment used within the department is in good working order and is used appropriately. Ensure that identified lines of communication are maintained with patients, colleagues and the hospital team. To at all times be polite, courteous and demonstrate sensitivity and compassion. To maintain standards of infection control within the boundaries of your responsibility.
To contribute generally to the establishment and development of a quality service. Role Context: Key Tasks & Responsibilities To ensure compliance with PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) to maintain standards of safety and prevent/control infection. Action deep cleaning in response to COVID-19. To keep the hospital clean and tidy in accordance with the rotas or in addition where required or directed.
This includes: o Cleaning communal and ensuite bathrooms and toilets including ensuring that lavatory brushes and holders are thoroughly clean after use o Cleaning bedrooms, make beds, dust and vacuum all areas o Maintain clean corridors, using warning cones when washing floors, shampoo carpets where necessary o Emptying of rubbish bags daily o Changing beds o Laundering of linen and towels o High and low dust (including skirting boards/window ledges/curtain rails/notice boards/picture frames/furniture/doors and door stays) o Vacuum carpeted areas, daily removal of spots or stains, and shampooing of carpets using machinery on housekeeping supervisor instruction o Damp dust/polish desks, furniture, fittings in offices, day room, and any other ancillary rooms attached to the area o Damp clean all telephones o Damp wipe light switches o Remove spots and splashes from paintwork on doors and walls Maintain and store all cleaning equipment in a safe, clean and hygienic condition, and in accordance with correct storage Faulty electrical equipment must be removed from use and reported to the Estates Manager and to the Ward Manger as soon as practicably possible. Ensure practice is safe; use housekeeping trolleys at all times Maintain adequate supplies across the hospital including: o Top up paper hand towel containers with appropriate consumables o Check and refill toilet roll containers o Check and refill hand soap, hand cream and hand gel dispensers across the hospital Personal Employees must maintain a high standard of personal hygiene and appearance. Employees must be positive and have a cheerful attitude. Ensure respect and dignity of service users at all times.
Knock before entering a patients room. Refer to the client by their preferred name. Patient privacy and confidentiality must be respected at all times. Maintain professional boundaries.
Be able to work within a team. Able to work alone and without direct supervision. Employees must attend their shift in uniform, use protective clothing provided and wear suitably flat footwear. Policies & Procedures Understand and adhere to the hospital policies, procedures and ensure that others also adhere to these.
Take personal responsibility for maintaining up to date knowledge and adhering to all hospital policies and procedures. Works within the hospitals Equality and Diversity framework. To actively engage in monthly supervision. To actively engage in the appraisal process.
Adhere to essential and statutory training requirements. Assist in the training of other staff as appropriate to role. DIMENSIONS Riverdale Grange Hospital provides a service to 9 adolescent patients who may detained under Mental Health Act (1983) and 9 adult patients who are undergoing treatment on a voluntary basis. The post-holder will be required to work as a Bank Housekeeper within a multidisciplinary team across the hospital.
The post holder will maintain a clean and safe environment which is fit for patients, staff and the public to use Budget responsible for: Nil KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE Experience of working within a team. Experience of cleaning. Knowledge of CoSHH. Knowledge and experience of working within infection prevention.
Ability to problem solve. Ability to work independently without direct supervision. Ability to maintain effective written records. Demonstrate a positive attitude.
Ability to plan, prioritise workload and manage time effectively. COMMUNICATION & RELATIONSHIP SKILLS Receiving sensitive information in an atmosphere where patients can be hostile, antagonistic or emotive, where adherence to detail and accuracy must be high. Act in an appropriate dignified and responsible manner with patients, relatives, colleagues, using appropriate language and communication skills which acknowledge cultural differences. PHYSICAL EFFORT Frequent requirement to exert physical effort throughout the period of work.
This is a physically demanding role which requires mobility. The ability to use and transfer Riverdale equipment within the unit. EMOTIONAL EFFORT Very occasional exposure to highly distressing, traumatic incidents such as self-harm, forced nasogastric feeding, verbal abuse or challenging behaviour from patients. May witness or be faced with patients who, at times, present with a heightened level of distress, agitation and hostility.
Maintaining high levels of self-awareness, mindfulness and vigilance within the working environment. Ability to maintain a balanced/objective perceptive while working under potentially stressful situations and conditions. MENTAL EFFORT There is a need to respond flexibly, sensitively and appropriately to situations within the context of work and in line with patient need/circumstances within the clinical environment. WORKING CONDITIONS Very occasional exposure to verbal abuse from patients.
By their placement in Riverdale Grange Hospital, all patients are deemed to be vulnerable and may present a risk to themselves. There is a potential future risk to the post holder in relation to discharged patients attempting to contact (e.g. importance of clear professional boundaries is maintained).
