You should have strong leadership skills and be able to manage multiple streams of information, remain calm in highly stressful situations and demonstrate excellent time management and organizational skills. The Banquet Captain is responsible for the supervision of staff, operations, and guests of banquet experiences at Seabrook Island Club. Reports to the Banquet Manager. Essential Job Functions: Lead by example and promote Seabrook Core Values, Characteristics, Employee Constitution and Decision Making. Oversee setup and serving of banquet functions. Delegate tasks to banquet staff in a professional manner. Prepare event area or room according to Banquet Event Order for each function or event, prior to the guest’s arrival. Adjust sound, light and temperature to keep appropriate atmosphere. Prepare condiments to be served for banquet functions. Attend all required staff meetings. Maintains a safe working environment for yourself and co-workers. Ensure that any & all food & beverage items are presented and served correctly, adhering to the standards set out by the Seabrook Island Club, noting any special requests & instructions set out on the Banquet Event Order for the event. Ensure that communication is constantly maintained between the Culinary Department, Banquet staff and/or restaurant staff during the event, alerting all involved in the event of any changes in the schedule of service, challenges during the service of the event. Ensure that all relevant & applicable paperwork is filled out correctly and copies distributed as required. Ensure that staff members return all equipment to the storage areas and that the room/area is left clean and tidy. Unconsumed sodas, bottled water, liquor, beer & wines should be returned to the correct storage areas. Coolers and banquet supplies/equipment must be cleaned at the conclusion of each event. Ensure storage areas are kept clean, neat, and organized at all times. Supervise staff appearance, service quality and handling of equipment and products. Handle guest complaints that may arise. Continuously seek ways to improve our service and products to members and guests. Maintain proper closing protocol after the conclusion of events. Perform other related duties as assigned or requested by the Banquet Managers. Requirements Education: HS Diploma Experience: Food and Beverage and/or Banquet Operations experience preferred. Skills: Ability to lift heavy objects in excess of 50lbs. Valid SC driver’s license and clean driving record as well as confident and safe driving skills for a full size passenger van. Excellent customer service skills, communication, leadership, problem solving skills and a strong eye for detail. Ability to work as part of a team and associate well with others. Ability to work as a banquet server or food runner as needed. Supervisory Responsibilities: Banquet Staff Equipment to be used: dollies, carts, audio visual equipment, LCD/computer hook up, staging, sound systems and other equipment as needed. Typical Physical Demands: Position requires the ability to walk, stand, bend, push, pull, kneel, and reach as well as a normal range of hearing and vision. Requires the ability to lift and move heavy tables, chairs and other objects. Requires manual dexterity sufficient to operate standard food service and meeting equipment. Requires the ability to stand and/or sit for long periods of time. Requires the ability to endure extreme outdoor temperatures and the ability to function professionally in an environment that is both physically and mentally stressful and challenging.
