The Banquet Supervisor is responsible for planning, supervising and coordinating the operations of the Banquet Department, to ensure maximum guest satisfaction in accordance to set policies and procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School Diploma
  • ProServe Certification
  • Must be able to lift and move tables, chairs, and other pieces of furniture and service trays in excess of 30 lbs
  • Must be able to work, standing up for long periods of time
  • Some tertiary level education preferable
  • Minimum of 12 months Food and Beverage Supervisory Experience

Responsibilities
  • Helps train employees in their duties and procedures to the standards set by the department and the hotel
  • Ensures the availability of adequate levels of supplies by filling out all appropriate requisitions for products required by the department i.e. dry stores, dairy, bars
  • Inspects all banquet facilities, furnishings, equipment and appliances to ensure proper cleaning, repair and maintenance action is taken
  • Weigh and count all alcohol at the beginning, throughout and at the end of any bar service and ensure it corresponds to all recorded sales
  • Liaise with the kitchen, to review the need of the function, service times and final numbers
  • Observe the work of employees to ensure service is efficient and courteous, and monitor the progress of functions and adjust service as necessary
  • Makes sure that all food served is of intended quality, and is served properly
  • Makes sure all banquet areas and facilities are opened up at the beginning of each day and then locked at the end of each day
  • Makes sure that all correct signage is up before the start of any function
  • Makes sure that all functions are setup according to the needs of the client and the BEO
  • Ensures all staff are aware of schedules, and are wearing appropriate attire and are following hotel grooming policies
  • Ensures all billing, paperwork and function notes are completed at the end of each shift
  • Ensures all cash and electronic billing is handled correctly and securely and is deposited at the end of each function
  • Must be able to multitask
  • Must be able to handle customer complaints and suggest corrective action
  • Ability to read, write and understand the English language, in order to complete requisitions, billing and communicate with other employees and guests
  • Must be able to understand and control labour costs
  • Must be able to organize and allocate tasks to staff and control and supervise the service of functions
  • Must have basic computer skills
