Job Summary: The Bar Manager is responsible for the friendly, knowledgeable and efficient service to our members with regards to bar and spirits management in accordance with The Minikahda Club standard operating procedures, mission statement and state guidelines. Essential Duties/Functions: Recruit, hire, train and supervise service/bar staff to be competent team members delivering excellent service across the club. Responsible for maintaining wine, spirit, and other bar-related glassware inventories to ensure ample stock for the busy catering and Member Dining season. Develops alcoholic & non-alcoholic recipes to improve the beverage program for members and guests. Maintains cleanliness and sanitation of bar areas, glassware, and equipment through regular inspections. Develop standard operating procedures to help ensure that bars are set up and operated efficiently. Responsible for conducting employee reviews for beverage department personnel. Works with Senior Food & Beverage Manager, Senior Banquet Manager, and others to ensure efficient beverage service in all of the club’s outlets and for special functions. Works with the Senior Food & Beverage Manager and lead bartenders to develop new and innovative wine & cocktail lists. In conjunction with the Senior Food & Beverage Manager, helps to develop the budget for the beverage department. Develops and monitors labor forecasts and budgets; takes corrective action as necessary. Handles complaints from club members, guests, and others related to the beverage and/or food & beverage department. Produces shift reports containing information on member-related issues, cover counts and any other concerns occurring during that time. Keeps current with changing member preferences and industry trends related to the beverage operation. Attends staff and food & beverage management meetings. Schedule wine and beer tastings with distributors to continuously improve variety and quality of beverages available to club members and guests. Monitors bar closing procedures (checklist) and assures that bar areas and beverage storerooms are secure. May serve as bartender during busy events or if short-staffed. Plans themed wine dinners for members. Maintains a service log regarding any notable member or guest behavior. Schedules maintenance of draft beer tapping. Completes other appropriate work assignments as requested by the Senior Food & Beverage Manager, Director of Catering & Events and/or the Assistant General Manager. Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Thorough understanding of all spirits. Must be able to mix all types of alcoholic drinks and know the proper procedures for handling and serving mixed drinks and wine. Capable of implementing and monitoring established systems and procedures. Ability to analyze mathematically. Must have strong organizational skills, attention to detail, friendly presence, professional attitude, exemplary customer service skills, with a polite and outgoing demeanor. Must be able to multitask and handle multiple priorities. Strong verbal/written communication skills. Function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment. Excellent time management skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, POS or similar software with the ability to learn new or updated software platforms is essential. Able to adhere to all company policies and procedures. Budget knowledge and management. Education and Experience: Associate’s degree in the hospitality field is preferred. Preferred Experience: three to five years of experience as a Member Dining and/or Bar Manager in a club or other high-volume hotel/restaurant setting. Food experience is essential. Physical Ability Requirements: Position requires standing, walking and moving for several hours at a time, inside and outside the building depending on the needs of the members and employees. Lifting food and drink orders, dishes, equipment, trays, etc. required as needed. Ability to lift/carry up to 40 lbs.
