We are Quest Coffee Roasters, a long-established cafe and coffee roastery with a loyal community following in Burleigh Heads and the Gold Coast. Known for our organic, specialty coffee, delicious in-house baked cakes, treats, gourmet toasties, and friendly cafe service. Our cafe is busy, fast paced, with a great team and many regulars who visit throughout the day. We are now seeking an experienced Casual Baker / Cook to join our Quest Burleigh Cafe team.

WE ARE LOOKING FOR AN EXPERIENCED BAKER / BARISTA TO JOIN OUR TEAM!

Position: Baker / Barista
Hours: 32-38 hours/week (Casual with consideration for full time role)
Schedule: Between 4:45am and 5pm
Rate: $35.00 to $37.00 / hr + Super, Bonuses, and Penalty Rates
Location: Burleigh Heads, Gold Coast, QLD

PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • 2+ years experience as a baker / pastry chef in a professional environment.
  • 1+ years experience as a barista.
  • In depth knowledge of baking principles, ingredients, and techniques.
  • Familiarity with commercial bakery equipment, such as mixers, ovens, and other tools, and the ability to operate and troubleshoot them effectively.
  • Ability to work efficiently and accurately in a limited space cafe setting, managing multiple tasks and prioritising responsibilities to meet production schedules.
  • Strong listening and verbal communication skills.
  • A strong understanding of food health and safety standards.

PERSONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Australian citizen or resident or otherwise appropriate long term VISA working rights
  • Availability to work shifts from 4:45am to 3:00pm weekdays, and between hours 5am to 5pm on weekends (if needed)
  • A perfectionist approach to food quality and cleanliness
  • Creativity and a passion for baking and cooking, with a willingness to explore new recipes, techniques, and flavours to enhance baked good and dessert offering.
  • Own transport to and from work

Responsibilities
  • Independently prepare and bake a variety of baked goods, including cakes, cookies, and other desserts, following established recipes and techniques.
  • Independently prepare and cook a variety of cabinet food including toasties, salads, and snacks.
  • Maintaining a safe and healthy work environment by following organisation standards and sanitation regulations.
  • Providing assembly / heating instructions and directions to the cafe team.
  • Monitor and maintain inventory of baking ingredients, ensuring an adequate supply of raw materials while minimising waste and spoilage.
  • Collaborate with the Cafe Manager on refining recipes and the cafe / catering menu.
  • Collaborate with the cafe team to plan and coordinate production schedules, ensuring timely delivery of baked goods to meet customer demands.
  • Conduct regular quality control checks on finished products, assessing appearance, taste, and texture to meet customer expectations.
  • Operate and maintain baking equipment and machinery, performing routine maintenance and reporting any malfunctions or issues to the appropriate department.
