Description JOB DESCRIPTION Position Title: Barn Area Lead & Driver Department: Track Maintenance Reports To: Track Superintendent FLSA Status: Non-Exempt ________________________________________ Position Summary The Barn Area Lead & Driver plays a critical role in supporting daily track maintenance activities. This position is responsible for overseeing the barn area’s operational needs, assisting with coordination between racing and track maintenance teams, and operating vehicles and equipment used to support the racetrack surface and surrounding areas. ________________________________________ Essential Duties and Responsibilities (These functions are intended as a general illustration of the work performed in this job classification and are not all inclusive for this position.) Serves as the primary lead for operational activities within the barn area. Coordinates with the Track Superintendent and Racing Operations to support maintenance needs. Operates company vehicles, tractors, utility carts, water trucks and other equipment to assist with track maintenance and racing operations. Assists with the transportation of materials, equipment, and supplies required for turf maintenance. Conducts and assists with regular inspections of the barn area to ensure cleanliness, organization, and compliance with facility standards. Assists with track preparation activities including moving equipment, materials, and tools needed for grooming, repairs, and conditioning of the racing surface. Ensures safe vehicle and equipment operation at all times and follows all facility safety procedures. Serves as a point of contact for trainers, grooms, and racing personnel regarding operational needs within the barn area. Assists with setup and breakdown of equipment related to racing and training activities. Maintains accurate logs for vehicle use, equipment inspections, and operational tasks when required. Performs additional duties as assigned to support track maintenance and racing operations. Requirements Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Working knowledge of racetrack operations and barn area procedures preferred. Ability to safely operate vehicles and equipment used in track maintenance. Strong organizational skills and ability to coordinate multiple operational needs simultaneously. Ability to communicate effectively with trainers, racing officials, and maintenance staff. Strong awareness of safety procedures and operational standards. Ability to work independently while also functioning as part of a team. Ability to respond quickly to operational needs during training and live racing. ________________________________________ Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required. Valid driver’s license required with a clean driving record. Previous experience in racetrack operations, agricultural operations, facility maintenance, or similar environment preferred. Experience operating tractors, utility vehicles, water trucks and maintenance equipment preferred. Must be able to work flexible hours including early mornings, weekends, holidays, and live racing schedules. ________________________________________ Physical Requirements Ability to stand and walk for extended periods. Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions. Ability to safely operate vehicles and equipment on and around the racetrack and barn area. ________________________________________ Work Environment This position operates primarily outdoors within the barn area and racetrack environment. Exposure to horses, heavy equipment, noise, dust, and changing weather conditions is expected. The role requires close coordination with racing operations, track maintenance, and barn personnel.
