JOB TITLE: Barn Attendant II
DEPARTMENT: Community Services

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

  • 1 year experience in farm animal care

OTHER SKILLS AND ASSETS:

  • Minimum 17 years of age
  • Valid Ontario non-probationary Class “G” driver’s license,
  • Ability to obtain City of Brampton Vehicle Operator Permit within 1 month of date of hire
  • Current Standard First Aid / CPR C from an accredited organization, or ability to obtain within 1 month of date of hire
  • High Five Principles of Healthy Child Development or Sport Certification, considered an asset
  • Exceptional customer service and communication skills
    *Preference will be given to students that have a permanent residency in Brampton.

Responsibilities
  • Provide care to various livestock and assist with daily barn operations
  • Provide animals with specified and required diets and administer medication
  • Responsible for appropriate response for animal care emergencies
  • Assist with Pony Ride Program and Petting Zoo in absence of Animal Technician
  • Ensure participant safety at all times
  • Perform basic grounds and housekeeping duties
  • Assist with the set up and dismantling of special events
  • Complete daily opening and closing duties of barn
  • Safe and efficient usage, care and maintenance of tools and equipment that include: power sweeper, string trimmer and push mower; reporting any defects to immediate supervisor
  • Complete administrative duties in a timely manner (i.e. accident/incident reports, cash handling procedures)
  • Provide a high level of front line customer service including greeting and engaging users
  • Report all concerns, accidents and incidents to immediate supervisor for follow up and take appropriate action
  • Understand, adhere to, and enforce Corporate Policies & Procedures, Confidentiality Guidelines, Emergency Procedures and Health and Safety Standards for all participants and staff
  • Attend meetings/training as required
  • Perform other duties as require
