Description

Café Brio is looking for a bartender / bar manager
Café Brio is a 110 seat restaurant including a 10 seat bar and 32 seat patio in the summer. It has a solid reputation gained from a fantastic culinary experience, strong wine list and warm, genuine staff headed by industry stalwarts and giant personalities.
As such, we are looking for a bartender to make guests feel at home at the bar. Be quirky. Guests here are expecting a moderate amount of irreverence while always feeling cared for. Treat your bar as your home – clean enough for Mom to visit but comfortable like a space to catch up with someone from years gone by, somewhere to share laughs with friends old and new.
Shifts will be 5 days a week running from 3:30/4pm until close. Dinner services will start at 5 pm from Tuesday until Saturday, 50 weeks a year. Your shifts and schedule will stay consistent throughout the year, allowing you to confidently plan your day and life. Additional time off will be available but subject to approval.
As the bar tender, you will be given the freedom to create a cocktail list that reflects your personal style and creativity. Your bar seats ten guests who you will be serving with the opportunity to generate solid sales. Brio thrives through its strong base of regular clientele but still has lots of room to grow.
Expected pay will be $20 per hour plus gratuities (from server tip out and guest tips) to start with a review and opportunity for increase after 3 months.
Brio Mission Statement and Core Values
This is what we wrote down for our business plan. Let us know how you feel. Is it riddled with typos? Does it align with you?
Café Brio is a restaurant that should feel like coming home. Guests can expect warm hospitality served with just a little bit of irreverence. Above all, Brio feels authentic.
We will continue the legacy of Café Brio. We will stay true to the restaurant’s roots: Seasonal food, warm and engaging service and weird art and music. Brio will feel familiar to those who have been visiting for the last several decades and inviting to our new neighbours.
The company culture is one of empowerment. We will foster an environment of curiosity and excellence. The kitchen will always be exploring new possibilities for amongst the best in the city and the bar will aspire likewise in wine and cocktails.
From the moment that guest walk through the door, they will be engaged and entertained. At no point will the brio experience be allowed to descend into boredom. Service should feel exuberant and willing.
There is parking available on Vancouver street that is free for 2 hours until 6 pm. This allows for essentially free parking for the duration of the shift within one block of the restaurant. We feel as though this is a particularly safe part of downtown, however, someone will always be available to walk you to your car for safety if requested.
And now for the exciting part! Duties will include
Stocking the bar from the cellar with wine, beer and liquor
Maintaining a par stock of juiced citrus and syrups
Presenting accurate bills, receiving payments and balancing cash outs at the end of the shift.
Keeping up to date on the dinner and wine menus, learning specials and suggesting them to guests.
Maintaining accurate pours to keep beverage costs within expected targets.
Balance your time in such a way that guests at server’s tables receive the same expediency of beverage delivery as the guests at your bar.
Verbally communicate with the team and use your support so that we can all help our guests get the best service possible.
Assist in running food (or drinks) if/when possible.
Preparing espresso drinks while also communicating with support to assist in this when time doesn’t allow.
Arriving on time to complete opening duties, have specials recorded and in dress appropriate for the floor.
Dress code is as follows: look nice. There is no strict black shirt, black pants etc. Shirts should have a collar and be ironed. Pants, skirts, dresses etc. should be clean. Aside of that, express your personality.
Maintaining cleanliness of the bar including:
Cleaning of the espresso machine
Cleaning up spills in the refrigerators
Locking up will not be an expected responsibility
