Description
Description The Worcester Art Museum is seeking experienced bartenders to support weddings, private events, and after-hours programs in a lively cultural setting. This role is ideal for someone who already has a strong bartending foundation and enjoys delivering thoughtful, efficient service to a wide range of guests, from longtime members to first-time visitors celebrating special occasions. Because bartending shifts are infrequent and event-based, this position is best suited for professionals looking for a supplemental role rather than a primary source of income. Bartenders in this role take ownership of the full bar experience during events, from setting up and organizing their workspace to providing smooth, attentive service throughout the night and wrapping up efficiently at the end. Shifts are often worked independently, so comfort with autonomy and strong time management are essential. Guests may arrive with a wide range of preferences and knowledge, so bartenders should feel confident preparing classic cocktails, speaking knowledgeably about spirits, beer, and wine, and helping guests choose a drink that suits their tastes. Throughout each event, bartenders are expected to provide responsible alcohol service, verify identification as needed, handle payments accurately, and contribute to a welcoming, inclusive atmosphere that reflects the Museum’s commitment to hospitality and care. This role requires prior bartending experience in a cocktail-focused environment, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to remain calm and organized in a fast-paced setting. Availability for evenings and weekends is required, as is current TIPS or ServSafe Alcohol certification. The Worcester Art Museum values collaboration, autonomy, and a shared commitment to creating positive, memorable experiences for all who walk through its doors. Position Title: Bartender Employment Type: Per Diem Department: Events & Hospitality Division: Financial Reports to: Manager of Events & Hospitality Supervisory Responsibilities: None Salary Range: $20 hourly Requirements Key Requirements: Established bartending experience in a cocktail-focused environment, with recent hands-on work preparing classic cocktails and engaging with guests beyond beer-and-wine service. Excellent guest service and communication skills, with the ability to engage warmly and respectfully with diverse audiences, handle varying levels of guest knowledge and expectations, and maintain professionalism in high-energy event settings. Comfort working independently and exercising sound judgment, as many shifts are staffed solo and require bartenders to manage setup, service flow, and breakdown with minimal supervision. Required certifications and eligibility, including being 21 years of age or older and holding a current TIPS or ServSafe Alcohol certification (or the ability to obtain it prior to the first shift). About WAM The Worcester Art Museum connects people, communities, and cultures through the experience of art. Our wide-ranging exhibitions tell global stories—from art made thousands of years ago to works being created today.
