Description NOW HIRING FOR SUMMER 2026! This position is based out of our David D. Hunting YMCA, but programs at local parks around Grand Rapids. Our Baseball and Softball Sports Specialist will have the opportunity to work alongside our program team in providing the city of Grand Rapids with a free youth baseball & softball league for kids in grades 1st-6th. POSITION SUMMARY The Sports Specialist for the Ted Rasberry Youth Baseball/Softball League is responsible for planning, performing, and organizing activities and games for youth and teens. The Program Specialist will ensure a safe, fun area for members to interact and enjoy. This position Monday - Thursday 4:00pm - 9:00pm and occasional Saturday availability, end of May through mid-August. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Teaches specific sports skills Maintains supervision of participants Enforces safety standards Follows emergency procedures Sets up equipment Supervises volunteers Monitors the use of the facilities Referees, scores, or helps with programs Distributes participant information Implements Character Development in programs Maintains all areas in clean, presentable fashion Handles member/parent complaints Performs any other functions necessary for the smooth and efficient operation of the YMCA of Greater Grand Rapids COMPENSATION $14.35 - $17.93 ; Seasonal, Non Exempt BENEFITS: Free YMCA Individual Membership – Enjoy full access to facilities. Requirements QUALIFICATIONS: Six months to one month of baseball/softball experience or participation; or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Working knowledge of sports and ability to actively take part and lead sports activities. Ability to interact with people of all ethnic backgrounds, ages, and lifestyles. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATION State of Michigan criminal background clearance (ICHAT) Blood Borne Pathogen training CPR Certification required within the first 60 days First Aid Certification required within the first 60 days WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
