Description
We are seeking an energetic and experienced Basketball Instructor to join our Sports & Recreation team at the JCC of Staten Island. The ideal candidate will lead youth basketball programs with a focus on skill development, teamwork, and sportsmanship. You will work closely with other instructors and program staff to create a fun, inclusive, and safe environment that supports the physical and social development of all participants. ABOUT YOU You are a passionate and knowledgeable coach who thrives in a team environment. You will be responsible for teaching basketball fundamentals, running engaging drills and scrimmages, and fostering a love of the game. Your goals include helping participants improve their skills and confidence while promoting positive behavior and group collaboration. You will work closely with fellow coaches, sports staff, and parents to ensure a smooth and successful program. WHAT YOU'LL DO Instruct youth participants in the fundamentals of basketball Lead drills, practices, and scrimmages appropriate to age and skill level Supervise participants during sessions, ensuring safety and engagement Foster teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship Communicate with parents and staff regarding schedules, progress, and feedback Maintain equipment and gym space before and after sessions Support broader Sports & Recreation programming as needed OUR REQUIRMENTS Prior experience coaching or teaching basketball (youth preferred) Strong communication and leadership skills Ability to motivate and positively engage children and teens Availability on weekends and/or after-school hours CPR/First Aid Certification (or willingness to obtain) PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS Experience or coursework in Physical Education, Sports Management, or related field Experience working in a community center or youth recreation program Knowledge of positive coaching techniques and youth development practices SALARY $18–$25 per hour, commensurate with experience BENEFITS The JCC of Staten Island is committed to keeping you and your family healthy and happy through a comprehensive benefits program.
