Description

Flint is pioneering the world’s first commercially viable paper battery technology that is safe, sustainable, and scalable. Our goal is to redefine energy storage by developing batteries that minimize environmental impact while maximizing performance.

We’re looking for a Battery Research Scientist to join our team in leading this transformation.

  • Conduct advanced research on zinc-based, solid-state, and next-generation battery chemistries.
  • Design and synthesize novel electrode, electrolyte, and separator materials.
  • Assemble and test coin cells, pouch cells, and custom formats.
  • Perform electrochemical characterization: CV, EIS, GCD, cycle life, rate performance.
  • Study interfacial chemistry, ion transport, and degradation mechanisms.
  • Optimize electrolyte/cathode ratios, electrode loading, and N/P ratios.
  • Analyze data to establish structure–property–performance relationships.Use computational modeling / machine learning for materials prediction (preferred).
  • Scale lab findings into manufacturable processes and prototypes.
  • Benchmark against commercial alkaline, NiMH, and Li-ion standards.
  • Collaborate across teams: chemists, engineers, sustainability experts.
  • Publish in peer-reviewed journals, present at international conferences.
  • File patents and IP from novel discoveries.
  • Ensure lab safety and compliance with ISO, UL, EU Battery Directive standards.
  • PhD in Materials Science, Electrochemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related field.
  • Proven track record of publications in battery research (zinc, aqueous, solid-state, or emerging systems).
  • Experience in solid electrolyte synthesis.
  • Hands-on experience with electrochemical cell assembly and testing.
  • Familiarity with analytical techniques (XRD, SEM/TEM, XPS, Raman, ICP-MS).
  • Strong background in electrochemical theory and kinetics.
  • (Preferred) Experience with computational modeling and/or machine learning applied to material discovery.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work in multidisciplinary teams.

If you’re driven to ask bold questions, challenge convention, and bring real impact to the world, Flint is where your science can spark something extraordinary.
